Job Title: Associate, Human Resources

Primary Work Location: Emeryville, CA

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Annualized Salary Range: $65,000 - $90,000

Overview: Association for Energy Affordability (AEA) is a rapidly growing non-profit energy services and training organization whose mission is to deliver the benefits of energy efficiency and clean energy to underserved and disadvantaged communities. We accomplish this mission by designing and implementing cutting edge energy programs, engaging in research and demonstration projects, developing and delivering education and training programs, and advocating at the local, state and federal level for policies and initiatives that will improve the housing affordability, health safety, and comfort in low-income and disadvantaged communities. Position Summary: AEA West is seeking an Associate, Human Resources to join our tight-knit, talented team of “Energy Geeks”. The candidate should have broad experience across the HR spectrum, with a particular focus on recruitment/talent acquisition, employee relations and onboarding/offboarding. If you are passionate about human-centric workplaces and fostering a positive work environment, we’d love to meet you.

Bonus points if you have experience in energy conservation and renewable energy, but not necessary as HR can navigate in any sector/industry.

The Associate, Human Resources will assist with general HR functions, and help us find talented colleagues, providing exceptional candidate and onboarding experiences. He/She/They are expected to be a self-starter, an independent problem solver, and a strong team-player.

Work Location: The Associate, Human Resources will be expected to work a minimum of two (2) days per week out of AEA’s Emeryville office location and may work remotely up to three (3) days per week.

Responsibilities: The Associate, Human Resources areas of responsibility will be:

Recruitment, Talent Acquisition and Retention

  • Recruitment/talent acquisition (job posting, screening resumes, conducting phone interviews, scheduling interviews with hiring managers, attending career fairs)
  • Maintain and improve upon our current recruitment strategy to support our high-volume, fast paced environment
  • Work collaboratively with hiring managers to determine position requirements and posting details
  • Ensures a professional and enjoyable candidate experience throughout the selection, interview process and offer extension.
  • Leverages modern recruitment practices, including technology and social media strategies to create compelling job postings, and produce results to meet hiring needs
  • Creates and executes recruitment strategies, including building a strong candidate pipeline of highly qualified and diverse talent for vacant positions
  • Assist Admin and other staff with planning, coordination and execution of staff social events and all-hands gatherings

   HR & Benefits Administration and Employee Relations

  • Support daily HR administrative functions and contribute to broader departmental priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Act as primary liaison for questions and concerns between employee and management
  • Maintain and update employee records and ensure integrity of all personnel files
  • Process employee-related changes in the payroll system 
  • Onboarding new employees to continue building a high engagement culture; communication between new employees, their department and manager for a seamless introduction to AEA
  • Offboarding employees; preparing paperwork, conducting HR exit interviews
  • New hire benefits orientation and open enrollment administration
  • Event planning; inclusive of Administrative Professionals Day, Wellness Month and themed all-staff events.
  • Management of leaves of absence, worker’s compensation and disability requests
  • Assist with work visa sponsorships and extensions

    Performance Management & Career Pathing

  • Managing 360 performance review process  
  • Updating and maintaining career track matrix
  • Assisting with the annual performance review process
  • Assisting director of human resources with human resources projects and initiatives
  • Other ad hoc projects as assigned

These job responsibilities may be revised over time to ensure the functional responsiveness of the Associate, Human Resources to AEA and Federal and California State program requirements.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience in human resources and recruitment/talent acquisition
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, recruit and retain new talent; really enjoys recruitment and interviewing candidates
  • Knowledge in the following areas of human resources: recruitment, performance management, career path planning, HR data and analytics 
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and presentation skills 
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and credibility with all levels across the organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ATS (Indeed, LinkedIn Recruiter), Payroll (Paycom), Slack and Smartsheet
Additional Qualifications Desired:
  • Familiarity with local, state and federal employment laws
  • Understanding the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and how they inform hiring decisions 

Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.
