Position Title: Associate Engineering Rotation Program

 

Location: Dallas, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Seattle, WA; Ashburn, VA; Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC


Your role The Associate Engineering Rotation Program is a structured early-career development program designed to build the next generation of technical talent supporting Digital Realty’s global engineering organization. This program combines immersive technical training, rotational exposure, and mentored hands-on experience across engineering, solutions development, and customer delivery workflows.

During the rotation, Associates develop foundational expertise in:

  • Data center design fundamentals including power, cooling, connectivity, and whitespace planning

  • Engineering documentation and solution development

  • Internal systems and engineering workflows

  • The full customer lifecycle from technical discovery through solution delivery and execution

Associates rotate through key engineering functions while working closely with Solutions Engineering, Design Engineering, Product, and Operations teams. Upon completion of the structured rotation, Associates transition into a supporting engineering role within their assigned market and continue to develop toward career paths in:

  • Design Engineering

  • Solutions Engineering

  • Solutions Architecture

Each Associate is paired with a mentor and receives a structured development plan aligned to Digital Realty’s engineering and technical leadership pathways.

What you’ll do 

Engineering and Technical Development

  • Participate in a structured engineering rotation program including technical training, system immersion, and hands-on project work

  • Support development of engineering solution packages including floor plans, power layouts, cooling designs, and technical documentation

  • Assist with whitespace design, power distribution, cooling strategies, and connectivity infrastructure aligned with customer and campus requirements

  • Contribute to the preparation of engineering deliverables used during customer technical reviews, workshops, and design sessions

Systems and Engineering Workflows

  • Utilize internal engineering tools and platforms such as AutoCAD and CFD’s, engineering documentation systems, capacity platforms, and global engineering portals to support deal execution

  • Support engineering documentation accuracy across design packages, service orders, and customer deliverables

  • Assist with maintaining and validating technical records related to capacity, inventory, and infrastructure availability

Sales and Customer Lifecycle Support

  • Partner with Solutions Engineers and cross-functional teams to translate customer business and technical requirements into scalable engineering solutions

  • Support technical due diligence, engineering reviews, and customer site tours

  • Assist with solution documentation supporting sales pursuits and deal qualification

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Portfolio Management, Sales, and Operations teams throughout the solution lifecycle

  • Support post-sales technical documentation and service handoff to ensure successful project execution

  • Assist in cross-team coordination for engineering reviews and design validation

 

Market and Campus Knowledge

  • Develop working knowledge of assigned campuses including capacity, power availability, cooling architecture, pathways, and technical standards

  • Support internal teams with technical information and documentation related to site capabilities

 

Professional Development

  • Participate in structured mentorship, technical training, and rotational assignments

  • Build foundational expertise in Digital Realty’s engineering standards and infrastructure design practices

  • Progress toward an independent engineering support role with increasing ownership and accountability

 

What you’ll need 

  • Will have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field within 1 year of program start date. 

  • Strong technical aptitude with interest in infrastructure engineering, data centers, or mission-critical environments

  • Ability to learn complex systems, workflows, and engineering processes in a structured training environment

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and/or temporarily relocate during rotation assignments

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and business teams

Our Compensation Philosophy

Digital Realty offers its employees a highly competitive compensation package, excellent benefits, and an environment that recognizes and rewards your contributions. Central to our compensation philosophy is rewarding our employees for achieving the values and objectives aligned to the company's overall goals and values.

 

Our published pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and geographical location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including but not limited to location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. Moreover, an employee’s total compensation package varies by role and may include salary, cash bonus or commissions, and equity awards not quantified below.

 

Compensation range: $70,0000 – $90,000 annually. This compensation range represents the Company’s good faith belief as to what it will pay as a base salary for this position at the time of this posting.
