As an Associate Engineer, you will research, design, and develop production processes for water treatment and carbon capture. Responsibilities include creating process models, conducting experiments, and communicating technical findings across teams.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Capture6, we are developing next generation water treatment and brine management solutions and creating environmental benefits to accelerate the transition to a decarbonized global economy. Our projects create dual benefits to climate and water sectors.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a talented and naturally curious Chemical engineer to join our team. You will support the design and build of process equipment and instrumentation for water treatment, carbon capture, sequestration, and innovations that generate additional co-benefits, for experimentation, pilot testing, and at full scale.  The ideal candidate is passionate about driving optimal outcomes and delivering insights that inform the overall business strategy.

What You Will Do

  • Research, design, and develop production processes that can scale from pilot through megaton system design.
  • Develop and implement PFDs, P&IDs, SOPs, and control narratives for processes.
  • Create M&EBs and use process modeling tools like Aspen Plus to size and optimize process designs across various applications.
  • Produce rough quick models for preliminary estimation and prioritization, and detailed reliable models for project development.
  • Independently design experiments (DoE) to test and optimize reactor performance using a mix of hands-on and software tools.
  • Pursue and construct grant funding and patent applications through research on novel and relevant science topics
  • Develop engineering assessments for partnership projects, identifying risks and proposing countermeasures.
  • Communicate and report key technical outcomes/learnings to technical and non-technical teams.
  • Collaborate with management and cross-functional teams for prioritizing research needs.

What You Will Bring

  • We’re looking for engineers with 1-5 years of experience in a commercial or research environment.
  • Prior experience with water treatment, electrolysis and/or electrodialysis, reactor design, and gas-liquid absorption is preferred.
  • Programming experience (Python, MATLAB).
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Process simulation experience using software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, Aveva, WAVE, Winflows or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with developing control and sensing systems in industrial hardware and facilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects to a non-technical audience and business subjects to a technical audience
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Proven track record of collaborative work across various teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Self-motivated and flexible with communicating with colleagues in various time zones.
  • Passionate about tackling the climate crisis.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

We are aware this job description may not capture all the dimensions we are seeking in the right candidate. You may also bring valuable skills and knowledge we haven't thought of. If you think you’re a great fit for this role, please apply and tell us why in your cover letter. We look forward to hearing from you.

Climate change disproportionately impacts underrepresented communities, and we believe a diverse and inclusive team is needed to meet this major global crisis head on. We highly encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply. Capture6 is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, age, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, marital domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, or veteran status.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
