We do Consulting Differently

About the Practice

Berkeley Research Group is launching a new Financial Services Operations & Technology practice, with an initial focus on Commercial and Consumer Banking. We help financial institutions improve how they operate by combining deep banking experience with AI-enabled delivery.

This is an opportunity to help build a new practice within an established consulting firm. We are looking for senior practitioners who enjoy solving complex problems, working directly with clients, and helping shape a growing business. Everyone on the team is expected to contribute beyond client delivery by helping recruit top talent, develop new offerings, contribute to thought leadership, and continually improve how we deliver work as the practice grows.

The Roles

We are hiring experienced business transformation consultants with deep Consumer Banking & Lending experience. These are senior, hands-on consulting roles for people who have spent their careers leading banking transformation across operations, technology, and the customer lifecycle.

We are hiring at two levels:

Associate Director — You own client engagements from proposal through delivery. You build senior client relationships, shape and scope the work, lead delivery teams, and are accountable for client outcomes, engagement success, and growing long-term client relationships. You also help build the practice through business development, recruiting, developing new offerings, mentoring others, and contributing to thought leadership.

Senior Managing Consultant — You lead the delivery of complex engagement workstreams. You work closely with clients, guide consulting teams, develop high-quality deliverables, and translate findings into practical recommendations and implementation roadmaps. You also help build the practice through recruiting, developing new offerings, contributing to thought leadership, and improving how we work.

What You'll Do

  • Lead banking transformation across consumer lending, retail banking, and payments.
  • Assess current operations, design future-state operating models, and develop practical implementation roadmaps.
  • Lead transformation programs, governance, and PMOs from strategy through execution.
  • Support technology-enabled transformation, including vendor evaluation, implementation, and business readiness.
  • Develop high-quality client deliverables and executive presentations.
  • Build trusted client relationships and communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with our AI specialists to incorporate AI-enabled approaches into consulting delivery.
  • Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the practice.

At the Associate Director level, you will additionally:

  • Own proposals, scoping, pricing, and client pursuits.
  • Lead multiple concurrent engagements and the teams delivering them.
  • Build senior client relationships and identify opportunities to expand client work.

Qualifications

Required

  • Prior consulting experience delivering business transformation for financial institutions. Associate Director candidates should have experience leading engagements and supporting business development within a consulting firm.
  • Deep experience in one or more of the following areas: retail banking, consumer lending, or credit cards, including servicing, collections, and default.
  • Experience leading large transformation programs in regulated financial institutions, including work involving regulatory change, compliance, operational improvement, or regulatory remediation.
  • Ability to work effectively across business, operations, technology, legal, compliance, and risk functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed.

Preferred

  • Industry experience at a leading bank, lender, or financial services institution.
  • Additional experience across Commercial Banking, Payments, or Wealth Management.
  • Experience using AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT is helpful but not required. We are looking for consultants who are curious about AI-enabled delivery and interested in working alongside our AI specialists to improve how consulting work is performed.

Success in these roles requires strong consulting skills, deep banking experience, sound judgment, and a willingness to help build a growing practice.

Associate Director Salary range: $180,000 - $250,000

Senior Managing Consultant salary range: $150,000 - $175,000

Job title and level will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Candidates must be able to verify their legal right to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
