Associate Director, People Business Partner

As Associate Director, People Business Partner, you’ll operate as a strategic partner without formal people management responsibilities. You’ll work closely with functional leaders and the executive team to drive critical talent strategies, lead through change, and deliver bold people solutions across the organization. You’ll report to the Sr. Director of People Experience, work closely with the Head of People and our Management Team, and set the pace for what’s possible in genomics leadership.

You’re not here to maintain the status quo—you’re here to reimagine what great people partnership looks like in a fast-moving, science-driven environment. If you thrive in complexity, lead through influence, and bring discipline to every decision, this is your seat at the table.

This is your opportunity to step up, stand out, and be part of a team that doesn’t just support the business—we challenge, disrupt, and elevate it.

What You’ll Do

Lead:

Be the thought partner leaders seek out. You’ll challenge assumptions, clarify priorities, and lead through influence. You’ll represent what great looks like in a performance-focused and people-centered culture. You will serve as a mentor/coach to other PBPs.

Challenge the Status Quo:

Act as the direct PBP for a key business function, setting the standard for engagement and support. You’ll lead cross-functional talent programs (e.g., succession, org design, change readiness) while simultaneously guiding senior leaders through their toughest people decisions. Your voice matters, you’ll use it to shape outcomes and build confidence.

Be Customer-Obsessed:

Listen hard. Speak with purpose. Anticipate needs. Use data, feedback, and insights to deliver value at every touchpoint—because the experience depends on you. From growth planning to retention risk, you’ll use feedback, data, and insight to create tailored, people-first solutions that elevate the employee experience. Champion change management for your key business functions, talent strategies, and people best practices that put our people and patients first

Think 10x Bigger:

Guide transformation initiatives that create ease, efficiency, and impact. Identify opportunities to improve, scale, and disrupt—moving fast and thinking beyond what’s comfortable. Use people data and analytics to make recommendations that will craft compelling stories, influence decisions, and shape what’s next.

Courage, Not Consensus:

Push for progress. You’ll use data to make bold, high-quality decisions and be unafraid to say what needs to be said. Your work will help inform executive decisions, people planning, and structural investments. Don’t wait for agreement—lead forward, challenge norms, and own the outcome.

Own It:

Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and high performance. Ensure you are aligned, equipped, and empowered to deliver with excellence. Balance autonomy with collaboration, and always follow through—because greatness is measured in results, not intentions.

Speak Up, Stay Curious:

You’ll coach leaders with clarity and empathy. You’ll question outdated practices, seek better ways of working, and champion accountability and trust in every interaction. Serve as a thought partner to leaders, anticipating and adapting to evolving workforce needs in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of progressive HR/People Business Partner experience, preferably in high-growth, complex environments
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and guide leaders through organizational complexity
  • Expertise in talent planning, succession, organizational design, change enablement, and employee relations
  • Strong experience focusing on data driven insights, with analytical skills to interpret trends and drive decisions.
  • Strong communication, relationship building, and presentation skills – comfortable influencing at the highest levels.
  • Comfort operating with autonomy in ambiguity and navigating fast-paced transformation
  • Experience guiding large-scale people programs and leading without authority
  • Experience in the HR landscape: performance management, talent management, compensation, employee relations, employment law, and a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • High EQ, sound judgment, and a bias for clarity and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Excel, HR systems (Workday preferred), and people analytics tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

Let’s Go Further—Together.

We’re building something bold—and we’re looking for someone equally brave to help us do it. At GeneDx, this role is more than a title—it’s an opportunity to shape the future of work for a company redefining what’s possible in genomic medicine.

Let’s lead it. Let’s live it. Let’s own it—together.

Science - Minded, Patient - Focused.

At GeneDx, we create, follow, and are informed by cutting-edge science. With over 20 years of expertise in diagnosing rare disorders and diseases, and pioneering work in the identification of new disease-causing genes, our commitment to genetic disease detection, discovery, and diagnosis is based on sound science and is focused on enhancing patient care.

Experts in what matters most.

With hundreds of genetic counselors, MD/PhD scientists, and clinical and molecular genomics specialists on staff, we are the industry’s genetic testing experts and proud of it. We share the same goal as healthcare providers, patients, and families: to provide clear, accurate, and meaningful answers we all can trust.

SEQUENCING HAS THE POWER TO SOLVE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES.

From sequencing to reporting and beyond, our technical and clinical experts are providing guidance every step of the way:

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • High-quality testing: Our laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and most of our tests are also New York State approved.
  • Advanced detection: By interrogating genes for complex variants, we can identify the underlying causes of conditions that may otherwise be missed.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

  • Thorough analysis: We classify variants according to our custom adaptation of the most recent guidelines. We then leverage our rich internal database for additional interpretation evidence.
  • Customized care: Our experts review all test results and write reports in a clear, concise, and personalized way. We also include information for research studies in specific clinical situations.
  • Impactful discovery: Our researchers continue working to find answers even after testing is complete. Through both internal research efforts and global collaborations, we have identified and published hundreds of new disease-gene relationships and developed novel tools for genomic data analysis. These efforts ultimately deliver more diagnostic findings to individuals.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
