Responsibilities

The Product Specialist Group (“PSG”) is a part of Oaktree’s Client Relations organization and is responsible for (i) creating, refining and managing content that effectively conveys our strategies’ investment approach, capabilities and portfolio activity; (ii) responding to existing and prospective investor requests for information; (iii) delivering marketing programming and thought leadership to raise awareness about Oaktree’s offerings and broad platform capabilities; and (iv) assessing and supporting development of new product opportunities and (v) eventually, after acquiring and demonstrating expertise, serve as a surrogate for Oaktree portfolio managers in some client interactions..

This role will be aligned to Oaktree’s liquid and multi-asset credit strategies and will support those areas at the direction and under the supervision of our liquid credit product management professionals. The candidate will be expected to develop internal subject matter expertise regarding our strategies’ approach, areas of focus and portfolios. Selected responsibilities include:

  • Lead creation of strategy content (e.g., pitch books, custom presentations, commentaries) by:
    • Building and maintaining presentations including standard or custom materials
    • Searching for and highlighting relevant sell-side analysis and third-party data for use in presentations
    • Crafting commentary, including in response to client inquiries, prospect RFPs/due diligence questionnaires (in partnership with the Diligence Services team), quarterly letters and other investor communications
    • Incorporating industry, asset class or competitor trends in new or existing materials
    • Collaborating with other product specialists as well as other Oaktree departments to standardize, streamline or improve content
    • Learning compliance and related industry advertising rules to assist in the creation of compliant content
  • Support fundraising initiatives by:
    • Partnering with our Marketing and investment team on strategic planning, inclusive of research on LPs
    • Building relationships with our Marketing team and driving follow-up where relevant and appropriate
    • Researching and preparing analysis regarding competitive landscape
    • Gathering intel regarding the market reaction to our products and refining messaging/strategy content accordingly to improve traction
    • Supporting and/or conducting Marketing Rep education about the strategies, throughout a fundraising campaign
  • Participate in product-related investor calls and meetings, including portfolio reviews, fund webcasts, etc.
  • Work with the Corporate Communications & Branding team to identify and deliver client events, conferences, or other programs
  • Contribute to product development initiatives by:
    • Researching, proposing and implementing new product ideas, bespoke client solutions or new investor channels for product distribution
    • Funneling market intelligence back to Oaktree’s investment teams and senior leadership (i.e., competitor activity, evolution and changes in investor demand, industry responses to policy, etc.)

Qualifications

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in an investment banking, institutional asset management, consulting, financial writing or product/investment specialist role;
  • Proven ability to (1) quickly develop expertise and fluency in complex financial topics, (2) interact directly with sophisticated stakeholders in a financial services setting, and (3) demonstrate a high service-orientation;
  • Fluency with MS Office suite for creating client-facing and internal deliverables to include PowerPoint, Excel and Teams; and
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and working collaboratively as part of a team.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with a record of academic excellence. MBA, CFA (or progress toward CFA), CAIA, or other recognized advanced credentials a plus

Base Salary Range

$110,000 - $125,000

In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives, a comprehensive benefits package and a flexible work arrangement.  The base salary offered will be commensurate with experience and/or qualifications, industry knowledge and expertise, as well as prior training and education.
