Job Summary:
The Assistant General Counsel provides legal counsel and support on complex and high impact matters within the Legal Department, collaborating with the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel(s), and/or Senior Assistant General Counsel(s) as appropriate. Serves as lead attorney for a defined portfolio of legal matters, projects, markets, CareSource affiliates/subsidiaries, or specialized area within a practice group, exercising independent judgment on complex legal issues.
Essential Functions:
- Provide advice and counsel on corporate, transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters, including drafting legal opinions and recommendations
- Proactively identify, assess, and communicate legal and regulatory risks; monitor and interpret legislative and regulatory developments relevant to assigned areas.
- Lead or provide legal support for contracting matters, including drafting, negotiation, dispute resolution, and vendor/provider agreements.
- Support corporate governance, compliance, and business development initiatives, including new market implementations and partnership arrangements
- Build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, regulators, governmental entities, external counsel, and key stakeholders.
- Manage and/or support litigation and dispute resolution activities
- Provide guidance and legal expertise to business partners and legal team members within area of responsibility.
- Perform any other job-related duties as requested
Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctor (J.D) from an accredited college/university required
- Seven (7) years of legal, regulatory, or compliance experience required
- Previous experience in a law firm or in-house corporate legal department preferred
- Healthcare and/or managed care law experience strongly preferred, particularly government programs preferred
- Demonstrated experience supporting complex regulatory environments and business operations preferred

- Demonstrates adaptability and sound judgment in a dynamic business environment.
Licensure and Certification:
- Current, unrestricted Attorney license is required
Working Conditions:
- General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Travel is not typically required
Compensation Range:
$135,600.00 - $237,400.00CareSource takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role, and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level. In addition to base compensation, you may qualify for a bonus tied to company and individual performance.
