Company Overview

Wolf Games is a cutting-edge studio leveraging AI to expand beloved content worlds into full-fledged universes across games, podcasts, newsletters, and vertical video. Our founders have a rich history of creating hit TV series, leading media groups at Twitter and NextVR, and building genre-defining generative art platforms. We're at the forefront of combining innovative AI technologies with creative industries to redefine interactive storytelling. Our flagship title, Public Eye, an AI-driven crime game, launches later this year.

Role Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Art Director to lead the art direction for our core Public Eye game, its evolving platform, and a growing suite of mini-games and extensions. You’ll refine the visual tone and standards across products, define our aesthetic north star, and guide internal and external artists to execute on a cohesive visual vision that’s both immersive and adaptable.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Define the overall visual identity of Public Eye and its platform, ensuring aesthetic consistency across the core game, UI/UX, platform hub, and mini-games.
  • Collaborate with Creative, Design, and Engineering leads to align visual direction with narrative and gameplay systems.
  • Lead concept development for characters, environments, interfaces, and marketing assets.
  • Develop and maintain style guides and visual references for internal teams and external partners.
  • Manage the production process and pipeline for video, image and audio assets in Public Eye.
  • Manage and mentor artists, giving actionable feedback and ensuring work meets quality and style expectations.
  • Oversee outsourcing and contractor relationships, ensuring on-time and on-brand asset delivery.
  • Ensure the visual design supports storytelling, gameplay clarity, and player emotion.
  • Participate in branding and marketing discussions to maintain visual cohesion across all player touch points.
  • Stay on top of visual trends in mobile games, narrative design, and UI to continuously evolve our visual language.
What We’re Looking For
  • 4–5+ years of experience in game development with at least 3–4 years in an art direction role.
  • Experience with generative AI tools and pipelines is required; strong skills using generative AI coding platforms (e.g. Claude Code, v0, Lovable, etc.) is a major plus.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing art direction across stylized or narrative games, ideally in mobile or platform-based experiences. Any work within the crime genre is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of how visuals support narrative storytelling, especially in grounded character-driven formats.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional departments: game design, narrative, engineering, and marketing.
  • Strong visual storytelling instincts, with a cinematic eye and knowledge of color theory, composition, and visual pacing.
  • Experience contributing to UI/UX design tone and style, ensuring clarity across multiple platforms and screen types.
  • Comfort working in a startup environment—hands-on, fast-paced, and highly collaborative.
Benefits
  • Competitive Pay: $35/hour depending on experience, 40 hours/week; contract to hire.
  • Remote-First: Work from anywhere with a flexible, asynchronous schedule.
  • Creative Ownership: Help shape the visual identity of a flagship IP and game platform.
  • Innovative Tech: Work at the forefront of storytelling and generative AI integration.
  • Startup Adventure: Join a nimble, creative team at the cutting edge of games and media.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
