Job Description
The Team:
Our Analytics team is fueled by a passion to impact the future of mobility. We love to find the meaning within the 100's of billions of miles of driving data we collect each year. We push the boundaries of telematics and transportation by building data and machine learning solutions to power our groundbreaking products. The Actuarial & Rating Services team within Analytics is responsible for defining, delivering, managing and supporting the use of all regulated risk insights associated with Arity's growing product portfolio. The team works closely with data scientists, product owners, individual state Departments of Insurance, and insurance companies to create and deploy innovative insights that make transportation smarter, safer, and more useful for everyone. Our key customer audience is insurance carriers who will leverage subscription risk insights we bring to market to improve the value in their existing programs and/or create new solutions for consumer needs.
The Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Managing Actuary for our Actuarial and Rating Services team. You will lead a team of actuaries and analysts dedicated to creating the best insurance telematics solutions in the market. You will help us articulate the value of the next generation of driving behaviors and risk models that insurers will use to make prices more fair and more accurate. Using these behaviors and models, you will design, develop, manage, and lead projects to support risk insights associated with Arity's product portfolio utilizing accepted actuarial and statistical standards and methodologies. You will work closely with external customers and regulators, filing support for our risk insights and providing tailored recommendations for the use of Arity's risk insights. You will also help shape and grow our culture we have worked hard to establish - promoting recognition of good work, continuous learning, winning together, and having fun along the way.
Responsibilities
  • Provides thought and/or technical leadership, including contributions to improvement, development and innovation, and often serves as a subject matter expert across the organization
  • Reviews, evaluates and communicates appropriateness of highly complex actuarial/modeling techniques and results to team, leadership and external groups that are well understood and to influence business decisions
  • Leads a team of people and provides input on talent management aspects to leadership
  • Partner with Insurance leaders to translate the product strategy and roadmap into priorities and tangible tracks of analytics work
  • Plans, implements, manages, and/or contributes on projects that are moderate to high complexity and are of large scale using accepted project management standards that cross multi-disciplinary areas with no guidance
  • Work with stakeholders and your team to ensure all projects have appropriate measures of success, strong acceptance criteria, and good high-level design
  • Support sales and customer success efforts by demonstrating Arity's analytics maturity coupled with humility and empathy
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and often serves on external conferences, meetups, blogs or other public engagements.
  • Responsible for selecting, reviewing, using and ensuring quality of data used to perform moderate to highly complex actuarial, modeling and statistical services and determination of appropriate tool utilization from a wide tool kit
  • Leverages understanding of insurance business, products, markets and regulatory environment to influence insurance product and modeling strategies and business decisions

Qualifications
  • Degree in related field of study such as actuarial science, math/applied math, statistics/applied statistics, data science
  • 7 or more years of industry experience in actuarial, data science or related roles preferred with at least 4 years of property and casualty insurance pricing or modeling experience
  • Advanced product, price, risk management and insurance regulation knowledge, including professional standards of actuarial/statistical techniques
  • Solid understanding of principles of predictive analytics, machine learning and BI
  • Experience managing technical teams of actuaries and/or data analysts
  • Experience leading end-to-end actuarial/modeling projects to generate measurable business value, including ideation, development, deployment, and maintenance & monitoring
  • Ability to envision and articulate radical change through highly innovative thought leadership
  • Inspires, mentors, and enables team to be bold and deliver high quality work
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with high ambiguity; inspires others to embrace these conditions

Compensation
Compensation offered for this role is $112,000.00 - 196,750.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
