Job Summary:

The Application Engineer for Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) products acts as a critical technical liaison between Semtech and its customers. This role involves closely collaborating with customers to understand their requirements, providing expert guidance on TVS product selection, and delivering tailored solutions for circuit protection in electronic systems.

Key responsibilities include ensuring TVS products meet customer specifications, addressing technical inquiries, conducting product testing, and supporting the design-in phase. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to develop customized solutions and drive the successful integration of TVS products into applications across automotive, consumer electronics, and industrial systems.

This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to effectively manage customer expectations. As an Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering industry-leading circuit protection solutions and ensuring customer success.

Responsibilities:

  • Characterize new & existing transient voltage suppression (TVS) products using a wide range of tools including but not limited to ESD test simulations, Lightning/Surge generators, Transmission Line Pulse (TLP) test simulations, and transmission loss analysis

  • ESD evaluation of customer boards and equipment pursuant to IEC 61000-4-2

  • Analyze system level ESD failures using System Efficient ESD Design (SEED) methodology and ESD/EMC analysis tools including ESD generators and Transmission Line Pulse (TLP) / Very Fast TLP (VFTLP) analysis

  • Customer and Technical Support

    • Respond to technical questions from customers and sales teams

    • Interface with customers to help define new products

    • Conduct technical training for Field Applications Engineers (FAE) and Distribution partners

    • Visit customers with Sales/FAEs to provide on-site support as needed

  • Prototyping and Design

    • Build hardware prototypes to verify new product feasibility

    • Design and build new product evaluation and demo boards

  • Modeling and Simulation

    • PSpice and ADS simulation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering

  • Strong knowledge of semiconductor device theory and electrical circuits, including Analog and Digital ICs

  • Solid understanding of High-Speed PCB layout concepts, including signal integrity and EMI/EMC considerations

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to proactively solve issues

  • Proficiency with different lab instruments and testers

  • Quick learner of new technical skills including new instruments and software

  • Effective verbal and written communication to interface at all levels within the organization

  • Team player with a strong sense of urgency to meet product requirements on schedule

  • Ability to collaborate with international, cross-functional teams, including those in different time zones

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office™ products - Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Project, etc.

Desired Qualifications:

  • M.S. Electrical Engineering

  • 2+ years’ experience preferred in the Semiconductor & Telecommunications sectors

  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as PSPICE and ADS is a plus

  • Fluency in Korean is highly desirable

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $56,000 - $118,500.  There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base salary, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education and experience, as well as job location and the value of other elements of an employee’s total compensation package.
