Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. First to deliver the best imaging and classification data for every defect or point on any layer at any time. EBeam’s mission encapsulates its role as the “eyes” of KLA’s product line, providing timely information on defects and critical locations on the wafer at the highest spatial resolution possible. Customers use EBeam products alongside KLA patterned and bare wafer inspectors to quickly understand the nature of defects and other imperfections on product wafers and take action to correct the manufacturing process.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Job Summary:

KLA is seeking a technically skilled Applications Development Engineer with deep expertise in Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX). This role focuses on developing applications that leverage EDX for material characterization. Based in Milpitas CA, the Applications Development Engineer will be responsible for:

· Characterization of new systems and features. This includes designing and conducting experiments, collecting data, publishing results and recommendations in the form of applications notes, best known methods or characterization studies.

· Work closely with R&D to influence product development based on application needs and simulation insights.

· Analyze complex datasets and correlate results with electrical and structural performance metrics.

· Support tool demonstrations and evaluations at customer sites and internal labs.

· Travel on short notice for 50% of the time to customer sites (domestic and international) for technical support, collaboration for product development, and training. Trips could be 4-8 weeks long.---

Qualifications:

· Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

· Experience in semiconductor metrology or analytical instrumentation, with a strong focus on EDX.

· Hands-on experience with EDX systems integrated with SEM/TEM platforms.

· Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools for semiconductor structures.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, JMP).

· Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Skills:

· Familiarity with other analytical techniques (e.g., XRF, SIMS, Auger)

· Knowledge of process control and yield improvement strategies in advanced nodes.

· Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Physics, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

Base Pay Range: $94,800.00 - $161,200.00 Annually
