Halfpricesoft is seeking an Application Support Specialist to join our team in Berkeley, CA. In this role, your primary focus will be serving as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries, ensuring our software users receive clear, effective, and timely assistance with our payroll and tax compliance software.
You will combine strong interpersonal skills with hands-on technical troubleshooting (SQL, HTML, OS compatibility) to resolve user issues and maintain product documentation.

Primary Responsibilities
- Customer Support & Inquiries (Core Responsibility): Act as the main technical contact for customer inquiries. Answer questions, troubleshoot setup and usability issues, and guide non-technical users through the software with clarity and empathy.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Investigate underlying software behavior, system issues, and database queries (SQL) across Windows, Mac, and Linux environments.
- Payroll & Tax Guidance: Assist customers with navigating US payroll workflows and tax compliance requirements within our software.
- Documentation & Help Articles: Maintain and publish updated product documentation and support guides on our HTML/React-based help platform.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer-first approach.
- Database Skills: Proficiency in SQL and a strong understanding of how relational databases operate.
- Web & Technical Basics: Working knowledge of HTML and general web application behavior.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and comfort handling numerical calculations or tax-related logic.
- Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (sponsorship is not available).
- Work Location: Ability to work on-site full-time at our Berkeley, CA office.
Preferred Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in customer support, technical support, or application support.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience or familiarity with US payroll systems, tax forms, or IRS documentation.
