General Description

The Sales Application Engineer is a customer-facing, technically focused role responsible for generating new business and expanding existing accounts by delivering value-based spring and formed wire solutions tailored to customer applications. This position serves as a technical partner to customers—supporting spring design, estimation, and quotation—while also acting as a key liaison between sales, engineering, and operations to ensure manufacturable, cost-effective, and high-performance solutions.

Scope

Sales Application Engineers work directly with customer engineering and purchasing teams to evaluate applications involving force, motion, fatigue resistance, and durability. The role spans the full project lifecycle—from application review and concept development through design, technical estimation, quoting, prototyping, validation, and production launch. Internally, this position supports engineering and operations with new program introductions, analytics-driven problem solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibility and Authority

Customer-Facing & Sales Support

  • Act as a technical interface to customers, supporting spring and formed wire design needs with application-driven, value-based solutions
  • Partner with internal and external sales teams to identify, develop, and close new business opportunities
  • Prepare technical estimates and formal quotations, balancing performance requirements, manufacturability, cost, and lead time

Design & Technical Engineering

  • Design compression, extension, and torsion springs, wire forms, and flat metal components
  • Perform load, stress, fatigue, and material analyses to validate application performance
  • Support prototyping, testing, PPAP, and customer qualification requirements

Costing, Estimation & Project Support

  • Develop BOMs, routings, and detailed cost models to support accurate pricing and quoting
  • Collaborate closely with production, tooling, and quality teams to ensure designs are production-ready
  • Serve as a technical liaison on new programs, engineering changes, and customer-driven initiatives

Operational & Continuous Improvement Support

  • Support internal engineering and operations teams on new project launches and special assignments
  • Participate in deep-dive analytics, root cause investigations, and Kaizen / continuous improvement efforts
  • Provide ongoing technical support throughout the production lifecycle
  • Perform additional tasks as determined by the company.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering - Mechanical Engineering or related
  • 3-5 years minimum experience in varied engineering and sales experience
  • 2D or 3D CAD experience
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Willingness to work additional hours including nights and weekends (on a case-by-case basis as deemed necessary)
  • Travel - minimal to none
