IND Technology is growing in North America, and we’re looking for an Application Engineer - Utility Smart Grid / Power Systems' to join our team and work directly with electric utilities and our Early Fault Detection (EFD) technology.
This is not a purely desk-based engineering role. You’ll combine power systems knowledge, field engineering, technology and customer engagement, working with utility customers and internal engineering teams to solve real-world electrical network challenges.
What you’ll be doing
• Act as a key technical contact for assigned utility customers, building strong relationships and supporting timely resolution of technical and operational issues.
• Conduct site visits to support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
• Work with electrical distribution and transmission systems and associated utility technologies.
• Analyse system and project performance and prepare clear monthly reports, insights, and recommendations for customers and internal stakeholders.
• Identify technical risks, performance issues, and improvement opportunities, ensuring they are addressed or escalated appropriately.
• Bring customer feedback and field insights back into the business to support product development and R&D initiatives.
• Coordinate with engineering, product, and other internal teams to ensure strong service delivery and customer outcomes.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or a closely related electrical engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of relevant professional experience in electrical power systems, utilities or related electrical infrastructure.
• A practical understanding of electrical distribution and/or transmission networks.
• Strong analytical, technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Confidence communicating with customers and explaining technical information clearly.
• The ability to manage priorities and work independently.
• Strong written communication and technical reporting skills.
• Willingness to travel to customer and project sites as required.
Nice to have
Experience or exposure to one or more of the following would be highly regarded:
• SCADA systems
• Smart grid technologies
• Electrical asset management
• Condition monitoring
• Sensors or monitoring technologies
• Grid analytics
• Installation and commissioning
• Utility technology or field engineering
You don’t need to tick every box. If you have a strong electrical engineering foundation, understand power systems and enjoy working with customers and technology, we’d like to hear from you.
Why join IND Technology?
This is an opportunity to work beyond traditional electrical engineering.
You’ll work directly with utilities and field teams, see how our technology performs on real electrical networks, and bring what you learn in the field back into our engineering, product and R&D teams.
Our Early Fault Detection technology helps network operators gain greater visibility into potential electrical fault activity, supporting proactive maintenance, improved network reliability and wildfire risk mitigation.
You’ll also be joining an international team, with exposure to customers and projects across North America and our wider global operations.
For an engineer who enjoys combining power systems, technology, problem-solving, and customer engagement, there is plenty of opportunity to learn, contribute and grow with us.
