About the role

Are you ready to ensure mission‑critical systems work reliably when the U.S. Army depends on them most? As an Appian QA Lead, you’ll define and lead the testing strategy for complex, AI‑enabled and real‑time data solutions supporting Army operational environments. You’ll embed quality throughout the Agile development lifecycle—combining hands‑on testing, automation, and mentorship—while validating Appian workflows, AI components, mobile applications, and Kafka‑driven integrations. Working closely with engineers and Army stakeholders, you’ll ensure solutions meet stringent operational, performance, and security requirements, delivering trusted capabilities that function as intended in demanding, real‑world conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Testing Strategy Development: Design and implement a comprehensive testing strategy that ensures full coverage of functional, performance, and security requirements across the project. This includes unit, integration, system, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Hands-on Testing: Perform manual and automated testing as needed to ensure the quality and functionality of AI-driven solutions, mobile applications, and integrated systems.
  • Data Integration Testing: Develop and execute data integration testing plans for complex systems, ensuring accurate data flows between integrated platforms (e.g., Appian, Kafka).
  • Test Automation: Collaborate with the team to implement and maintain automated test scripts for repetitive tasks, ensuring efficient test execution and consistent results.
  • Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor and guide other testers on the team, providing training on best practices and ensuring the overall quality of testing efforts.
  • Defect Management: Lead the identification, tracking, and resolution of defects. Work with developers and stakeholders to ensure that defects are prioritized and addressed promptly.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain clear and comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, defect reports, and test results. Provide regular testing status reports to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Customer Engagement: Engage with the Army’s representatives to ensure that testing aligns with their unique needs and operational environments, ensuring that the delivered solution meets their requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify testing risks early in the project lifecycle and recommend mitigation strategies to avoid delays and ensure project delivery on time.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess testing processes and tools, recommending improvements to enhance test coverage, efficiency, and quality outcomes.
  • Interpret software test results and recommend solutions for unsatisfactory test results
  • Train end users on Appian enhancements and features following release cycles.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
