About this role

About the Portfolio Analytics Group (PAG):

Join the Portfolio Analytics Group (PAG), a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary team of in-house, forward-deployed engineers and data scientists at the forefront of applied analytics at BlackRock.

As part of the Aladdin Financial Engineering (AFE) division, PAG develops and deploys advanced analytical solutions that integrate Aladdin’s technology platform, financial models, and data to solve complex, real-world investment challenges. These solutions are used by portfolio managers and risk professionals across BlackRock to support investment decisions, contributing to outcomes such as improved portfolio positioning and winning client mandates. The team works across the full breadth of asset classes—including equities, fixed income, derivatives, and private markets—reflecting the diversity and scale of investment strategies we support.

Role Overview:

We are seeking high-performing individuals to design, build, and deploy next-generation analytical tools that sit alongside and extend the Aladdin platform to enhance investment workflows. These capabilities support a wide range of use cases, including portfolio construction, investment research, relative value analysis, and increasingly, AI-enabled decision support.

This role involves working closely with investment teams to identify high-impact opportunities, rapidly prototype ideas, and iterate based on real-world feedback. The focus is on translating complex analytical capabilities into intuitive, fit-for-purpose solutions that integrate seamlessly into how investment teams operate.

Successful candidates will wear multiple hats, acting as hands-on analytics developers, internal technology advocates, and business-oriented project managers. On the technical side, they will demonstrate a strong aptitude for learning our proprietary technology ecosystem, and for working with various programming languages and technology stacks. They should also possess technical fluency in AI, Python, and database languages, along with experience building end-to-end analytical applications. Equally important are the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and a solid understanding of financial markets and instruments.

Opportunities by Investment Team:

The PAG team is hiring for 3 Associate roles in New York. While all positions align with the core responsibilities outlined above, each role will partner with a different investment team and support distinct business priorities.

  • Fixed Income: Partner with Portfolio Managers across the Fixed Income Group to develop and deliver data- and technology-driven analytics that help the business generate alpha, differentiate itself, and operate more efficiently and at scale.
  • Multi-Asset Strategies: Partner with Portfolio Managers across the Multi-Asset Solutions and Strategies Group to deliver asset allocation and portfolio construction solutions across the lifecycle (e.g., strategic and tactical asset allocation), support risk budgeting, and leverage AI to enhance existing workflows and improve productivity.
  • Private Markets: Partner with BlackRock’s Private Financing Solutions Business to deliver solutions across the investment lifecycle, including deal due diligence, portfolio monitoring and cash flow forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:

As an analytics and technology SME:

  • Communicate insights, methodologies, and outputs clearly through presentations, discussions, and written materials
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Aladdin ecosystem, including its analytical capabilities and financial models, to identify opportunities and gaps

As a business-oriented project manager:

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with investment teams, identifying high-impact opportunities and driving execution from ideation through deployment
  • Build a strong understanding of asset-class-specific investment processes and operate as a credible partner to portfolio managers
  • Apply strong project management discipline across initiatives, including prioritization, stakeholder coordination, and timely delivery
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to productionize solutions and ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability

As a hands-on analytics developer:

  • Translate complex analytics into intuitive, fit-for-purpose tools that integrate directly into investment workflows and enhance decision-making
  • Design and deliver analytical tools that support portfolio construction, research, relative value analysis, and AI-enabled decision support
  • Prototype, test, iterate, and deploy analytical and AI-driven applications using firm infrastructure and modern technology stacks
  • Operate with an experimental mindset—rapidly iterating, learning from feedback, and refining approaches to maximize real-world impact

Key Qualifications / Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, ideally within financial services
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and investment stakeholders
  • Strong open-ended problem-solving skills and experience building impactful analytical applications
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL at a minimum, with experience developing scalable, production-grade solutions
  • Experience with cloud and UNIX/Linux environments, Git, and modern development workflows (e.g., Azure DevOps) is a plus
  • Familiarity with AI/ML/LLM techniques, agentic systems and AI-enhanced coding is a plus
  • Prior experience with one or more asset classes (e.g., fixed income, equities, derivatives, or private markets) is a plus
For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$137,500.00 - USD$170,000.00 . What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
