About the Role

Hex’s Data team is focused on using data to enable execution and decisions in our rapidly growing business.

As a Senior Analytics Engineer at Hex, you’ll lead the way on thinking about how our data team can most effectively improve the team’s ability to use data in everyday decisions, big and small. You’ll partner with our GTM and product organizations to help them access the data, insights, and operationalized workflows they need as we scale. We’re focused on unblocking new strategies and understanding for our leadership team while ensuring our world-class data stack continues to operate smoothly.

You can read posts about data work at Hex on our blog, including how we think about data roles, how we collaborate, and the ways we use Hex here at Hex.

What you will do:
  • Improve and maintain the infrastructure in our stack, which includes Snowflake, Rudderstack, AWS, Fivetran, dbt + MetricFlow, Hightouch, Eppo, and of course, Hex!
  • Work with stakeholders to define, iterate, and measure core business metrics
  • Build and improve dbt models so that it’s easy for Hexans to gain insight and answer questions about our business
  • Continuously test and adopt new tools and workflows in Hex and beyond, and share your feedback with our product teams
  • Lead the team’s technical practices: coach analysts on software engineering principles, prototype new data tooling, and develop resources that enhance developer experience
  • Ensure a high level of quality, performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in our data stack as we scale
  • Train teammates across the company on how to use Hex effectively as a data workspace
  • Contribute to a culture of documentation and knowledge-sharing, whether internally or through public channels like blog posts, conference talks, or community forums
About you:
  • You’re passionate about enabling better decisions through thoughtful data systems. You understand that data is a team sport, and you’re excited to help define what great data work looks like at a modern company.

Experiences and skills you have include:

    • 3+ years of experience as an Analytics Engineer, or equivalent years working with analytics engineering best practices regardless of title
    • A track record of working to maximize business impact by navigating ambiguity and focusing on unblocking the functions you support
    • Strong SQL and dbt skills, comfort with Python, and experience maintaining data warehouses and ELT pipelines
    • A drive for quality, simplicity, and maintainability in your work
    • Curiosity about new technologies and a willingness to experiment with tools and workflows to improve how teams work with data

These experiences are not required, but will help you stand out as an applicant:

    • Experience exploring or implementing emerging tools or methods in the data ecosystem (e.g. AI-assisted tooling, novel dbt workflows)
    • Experience implementing and managing a semantic layer
    • A passion for community—whether that means contributing to internal documentation, mentoring teammates, or sharing how you work externally
    • Familiarity with SaaS metrics and experience partnering with GTM or Product teams in a B2B context

This role is based in the U.S.

In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.

The salary band for this role is: $160,000 - $200,000.
The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
