Are you looking for a role in a company that's solving one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime? Ophelia helps people end their opioid use and restore their quality of life with respect for their time and dignity. Our mission is to make evidence-based treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD) accessible to everyone... and we're looking to bring more people onto our team to help us achieve it.

Ophelia is a venture-backed, healthcare startup that helps individuals with OUD by providing FDA-approved medication and clinical care through a telehealth platform. Our approach is discreet, convenient, and affordable. We've been successfully operating in 14 states for almost six years and we're excited to continue our growth. We are a team of physicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, researchers and White House advisors, backed by leading technology and healthcare investors working to re-imagine and re-build OUD treatment in America.
About the Role

As an Analytics Engineer II at Ophelia, you'll be instrumental in developing and refining our data warehouse for analytics, reporting, and research. This involves constructing a resilient data pipeline with a scalable data model, integrating data from various sources such as electronic medical records (EMR), patient portal, finance systems, and published events and surfacing this data in an appropriate BI tool for end stakeholders.

You will collaborate across teams to identify data-driven opportunities that propel the business forward, delivering high-quality data work using an agile methodology. Your contributions will ultimately influence key company domains, including company-level KPIs, clinical, and business operations, and more.

Our data team leverages a robust stack within Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing dbt, Fivetran, BigQuery, Rudderstack, and Looker/Lightdash. Data is deeply embedded in our corporate culture, with widespread adoption of data products and a significant potential for further evolution.

In this fully remote position, you will report to our Senior Director of Data and serve as a peer to other analysts and analytics engineers as our team expands. You will work closely with the broader Technology Team to cultivate a culture of data-driven decision-making, ultimately enhancing patient care. You'll oversee analytics data across diverse domains like finance, clinical operations, and company KPIs, ensuring its high-quality availability through supporting systems. You will also be responsible for populating data in all data products, managing infrastructure, and implementing tests and alerts to maintain data quality.

Together, we are dedicated to helping individuals with opioid dependence. While experience in this specific treatment area isn't required, ideally, you will possess knowledge of the healthcare landscape, including an understanding of health outcomes, benchmarks, systems, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA).

Responsibilities
  • Designing and maintaining a modern data infrastructure: Build and maintain a robust, reliable, accessible, and secure data stack that complies with healthcare data regulations.
  • Developing data analytics solutions: Collaborate with the data team to architect and construct data analytics schemas and datasets in BigQuery and dbt as well as building self-serve dashboards using appropriate business intelligence tools
  • Supporting existing data pipelines: Provide continuous support and maintenance for current data pipelines, quickly resolving any issues.
  • Serving as a data subject matter expert: Act as the go-to person for Ophelia's data assets, confidently answering data-related questions and effectively collaborating with stakeholders across all levels of data expertise within the organization.
  • Improving data accessibility: Enhance data accessibility and understanding for all Ophelia employees, enabling quicker and easier access to insights.
  • Fostering a data-driven culture: Actively support data-related inquiries and requests from other teams to champion a data-driven culture throughout the company.
Skills & Competencies
  • Data Architecture & Exploration: 2-4 years of experience improving data flow and structure within agile technology teams, utilizing cloud tools such as BigQuery, Snowflake, and AWS. GCP experience is a plus!
  • Measurement Expertise: Subject matter expertise in measurement across at least two disciplines: finance, digital products, marketing, business operations, or healthcare.
  • Dimensional Modeling & Business Intelligence: Strong experience with dimensional modeling and relevant tools like BigQuery, dbt, or similar, as well as business intelligence tools (Looker, Lightdash, Tableau).
  • Analytical Prowess: Expert in SQL for analytical use, with familiarity in Python, R, SAS, or other analysis tools.
  • Version Control: Experience with Git/other tools.
  • Team & Independent Work: Ability to collaborate effectively while also working autonomously.
  • Mission Alignment: Passionate about making evidence-based addiction treatment universally accessible through data analysis and exploration.
  • Big Data Pipelines & Ad Hoc Analysis: Experience building automated big data pipelines and conducting ad hoc data analyses to support leadership and stakeholder decision-making.
  • Regulated Industry Background: Experience in a regulated and/or secure industry (ideally healthcare/telehealth), demonstrating a thoughtful approach to compliant, private, and secure systems that remain nimble and modern.
  • Technical Habits: Exhibits habits of a technician, including continuous improvement, learning, measurement, and objective, reasoned thinking.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
