The role will provide support in the global collection and administration of copyright royalties, including retransmission royalties, private copy levies and related remuneration, working closely with Collective Management Organizations (CMOs), the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and Disney’s internal teams. It involves legal research, compiling and analyzing high volumes of data and tracking royalty revenue.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide timely and efficient responses to ad hoc requests by collection societies. Meeting deadlines is critical. Register and track Disney TV content with third parties:
- Run and analyze rights reports using Disney’s systems to identify the TV content to be registered in each territory with the local collection societies.
- Register our TV content directly with each collection society using their own systems and programs.
- Identify and claim Disney’s audiovisual works on broadcasts lists produced by CMOs.
- Build and maintain internal rights databases in Microsoft Access program.
- Provide support to solve right disputes with third party claimants:
- Gather, review, interpret and summarize all relevant agreements for a full chain of title research.
- Assist in submitting relevant agreements to CMOs
- Track all disputes and follow up with conflicting parties to ensure deadlines are met
- Track all royalty cash
- Work with Tax Team to acquire and submit all tax forms and certificates.
- Prepare and submit invoices and declarations
- Follow up with CMOs for royalties to be paid
- Work with colleagues both locally and remotely from various areas of the Company, including Legal, Finance and Music.
Basic Qualifications:
- 1+ years of applicable experience at a major or medium-sized entertainment company.
- Knowledge of rights management and contract administration
- Ability to review and interpret contracts
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced and high-volume environment who enjoys a dynamic and ever-changing business work environment.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to be a flexible team player with a hands-on mentality who likes to take initiative.
- Have the strong ability to use multiple systems and programs, including but not limited to rights and licensing databases, document repositories, third party websites, and more.
- Strong MS Excel, Word and Access skills
- Strong accounting and financial analysis skills
