Responsible for overseeing ambulance operations, ensuring compliance, mentoring staff, and addressing operational issues while maintaining quality patient care.
We are seeking an experienced EMS Ambulance Operations Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Operations Team to ensure that field personnel, vehicles, equipment, and support services operate efficiently and effectively. The supervisor will educate, enforce, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures while making managerial decisions that support the overall success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Field Support
- Resolve issues and inquiries from field personnel regarding work assignments, vehicles, equipment, and operational matters.
- Respond on an ambulance as part of the EMS system to maintain compliance standards and provide high-quality patient care.
- Oversee day-to-day field operations and address issues as they arise.
- Ensure field personnel uphold company standards and operational expectations.
Team Leadership & Employee Development
- Foster teamwork among field crews to support a coordinated clinical performance plan.
- Maintain an open-door policy to encourage communication, suggestions, and issue resolution.
- Mentor employees and support professional growth.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and new employee orientation.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Investigate and resolve customer service concerns related to employee performance and patient care.
- Coordinate with Field Training Officers and the Clinical Team to identify training opportunities and improve clinical performance.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company and information systems security policies.
- Lead investigations related to employee performance or operational issues.
Coordination & Communication
- Act as a liaison between field personnel, Regional Director, and Executive Leadership.
- Partner with the Scheduling Team to assist with scheduling needs during normal business hours and after hours as required.
- Promote positive communication between departments.
Additional Duties
- Support affirmative action and equal employment efforts in staffing, training, and promotion.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of on-ambulance experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated experience in training, coaching, evaluating, and instructing personnel
Skills
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment both independently and within a team
- Strong decision-making, judgment, and problem-solving abilities
- Professional writing and basic math skills
Education & Certifications
- Current California State EMT Certification
- Current San Diego County EMT Certification (if applicable)
- ICS-100 and ICS-200 required
- ICS-300 and ICS-400 preferred
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with scheduling software and CAD systems
- Clerical and administrative proficiency
Physical Requirements
- Occasional: Kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, carrying, lifting
