We are seeking an AI Solutions Engineer to design, build, and deploy AI-driven solutions that enhance legal workflows, improve client service delivery, and drive operational efficiency across the firm. This role sits at the intersection of legal practice, data, and emerging technologies, and will partner closely with attorneys, knowledge management, IT, and innovation teams.

The AI Solutions Engineer will play a key role in identifying high-impact use cases for AI (including generative AI), developing scalable solutions, and ensuring responsible and secure implementation within a highly regulated legal environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and implement AI-powered tools (e.g., document analysis, contract review, legal research assistants, workflow automation).

  • Build and maintain applications leveraging LLMs, NLP, and machine learning frameworks.

  • Develop APIs, integrations, and internal tools to embed AI into legal workflows.

  • Collaborate with attorneys and business teams to identify opportunities for AI-driven efficiency and innovation.

  • Translate legal and business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Work with foundation models (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source LLMs) and optimize for legal use cases.

  • Implement prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning where appropriate.

  • Integrate with document management systems (DMS), knowledge bases, and firm data sources.

  • Ensure high-quality data pipelines and governance for AI applications.

  • Ensure AI solutions comply with legal, ethical, and client confidentiality requirements.

  • Partner with security and risk teams on model governance and data protection.

  • Establish metrics to evaluate model performance and user impact.

  • Iterate based on feedback from legal practitioners.

  • Support internal adoption through documentation, training sessions, and user support.

  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and legal professionals.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, or AI development.

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • Python (or similar language)

    • APIs and backend development

    • LLMs and NLP frameworks (e.g., OpenAI API, LangChain, Hugging Face)

  • Experience building production-grade applications.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with ambiguous requirements

  • Experience in legal tech, professional services, or regulated industries.

  • Familiarity with:

    • Retrieval systems (vector databases like Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS)

    • Prompt engineering and RAG architectures

    • Document processing (OCR, parsing, structured extraction)

  • Understanding of legal workflows (e.g., litigation, corporate transactions, compliance).

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices.

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical legal solutions.

  • Strong collaboration skills with non-technical stakeholders.

  • Curiosity and adaptability in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.

  • High attention to detail, especially around accuracy and risk.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
