Job Description

We're hiring an AI Ops Business Analyst to focus on driving efficiency and reliability within our AI operations by building automated solutions ("Gems") and optimizing internal processes. This role is perfect for a highly organized, technically astute individual who can translate operational challenges into automated workflows, ensuring our AI projects move from development to production seamlessly.

The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between AI development, IT operations, and business stakeholders, using data and process mapping to identify opportunities for automation.

The Missions & Insights team builds the platforms that power real-time public safety operations, with a strong focus on AI-driven solutions and automation. We are constantly optimizing our operational pipelines to ensure our mission-critical technology is delivered and maintained with speed, stability, and scale. This role is crucial for identifying and automating key operational processes, creating "Gems" that streamline our AI development, testing, and deployment lifecycle.

Job Description

We are seeking an AI Ops Business Analyst to lead the charge in identifying, documenting, and implementing automation opportunities across our AI operational landscape. You will act as the key analyst and product owner for internal automation projects, focused on increasing velocity and reducing manual toil for our engineering and operations teams.

You will map current-state processes, define the requirements for "Gems" (internal automation tools/scripts), and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure these solutions are built, tested, and adopted, directly contributing to the maturity of our AI operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Process Mapping & Automation Strategy: Map out current operational processes (e.g., model retraining, deployment pipelines, data governance) to identify bottlenecks, manual steps, and areas ripe for automation ("Gems").

  • Requirements & User Stories: Serve as the internal "Product Owner" for automation projects. Translate identified business and operational needs into clear, concise, and technically grounded requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for the engineering team.

  • Gem Development Oversight: Work directly with AI Ops and Engineering teams to prioritize the automation backlog, refine stories, and ensure that automated solutions are built, tested, and deployed efficiently.

  • Tooling & Governance: Analyze and recommend improvements to the existing AI Ops toolchain, focusing on standardization and compliance with data governance and security policies through automation.

  • Measurement & ROI: Define key metrics for operational efficiency (e.g., reduced time-to-deployment, lower error rates) and track the Return on Investment (ROI) of deployed "Gems" and process automations.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Owners, Engineers, and IT Operations to ensure automated solutions integrate seamlessly and are adopted by the relevant teams.

Basic Requirements
  • 4+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Product Owner, or Process Improvement Analyst in a software or technical domain.

  • Proven experience in process mapping, requirements elicitation, and defining automation strategies within a technical environment (DevOps, MLOps, or IT Operations preferred).

  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and modern operational concepts (CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code). Familiarity with MLOps principles is highly desirable.

  • Expert-level proficiency with tools like Jira for backlog management and documentation, and flow-charting tools for process mapping.

  • Ability to read or understand basic scripting/programming logic is a strong advantage, allowing for effective communication with engineers on technical feasibility and design.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple internal "product" backlogs simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex technical processes into clear business language and vice versa.

What Sets You Apart
  • You have a history of driving tangible reductions in manual toil through automation.

  • You are proactive in seeking out inefficient processes and passionate about fixing them with elegant, repeatable solutions.

  • You are fluent in the language of both business value and technical implementation.

  • You understand that effective operations are key to successful AI delivery.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
