About SafeLease

SafeLease is redefining how insurance is designed, priced, and distributed inside leased real estate. The company has built a vertically integrated insurance and software platform that embeds tenant protection and commercial coverage directly into self-storage operations, transforming insurance from a low-value add-on into a scalable, recurring revenue engine for operators.

By combining purpose-built software with in-house underwriting and insurance program design, SafeLease treats insurance as a configurable product, enabling flexibility across coverage, pricing, and contracts while driving measurable NOI improvement and operational efficiency for customers. Today, SafeLease’s platform is used by more than 4,000 properties nationwide and has become a core part of how operators manage risk and monetize their tenant base.

Founded four years ago, SafeLease is profitable, capital-efficient, and backed by an enduring family office capital base. Having established a leadership position in self-storage, the company is now investing further in product innovation and insurance expansion to extend its platform into adjacent commercial property verticals (manufactured housing, light industrial, hangars, marinas, etc.), with a clear ambition to build the leading insurance infrastructure for leased real estate.

The Role

As our first Agency Development Manager, you will be the face of SafeLease to the brokerage community. You will be responsible for identifying, appointing, and managing relationships with independent agents as well as regional and national brokerages.

What You’ll Do
  • Build the Network: Identify and recruit high-performing commercial lines agencies and brokers who specialize in our core and adjacent verticals (self-storage, light industrial, marinas, hangars, etc).

  • Onboard & Activate: Lead the appointment process. After signing producer agreements; you’ll train producers on how to use the SafeLease portal to quote and bind business in minutes and ensure they are successfully utilizing our platform and understand our appetite.

  • Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for our producer partners. Conduct regular account reviews, provide appetite updates, and gather feedback to improve our product. Be hyper responsive to their needs and obsessed with making them successful working with SafeLease.

  • Product Advocacy: Educate producers on our insurance products and technology advantage — showing them how our data-driven underwriting and faster turnaround times leads to better pricing and faster commissions for them.

  • Drive Premium Growth: Own the entire pipeline from initial submission through to bind. You will partner closely with our underwriters to ensure high-quality risks are being prioritized.

  • Own Program Business: Build distribution/referral relationships with our existing property management customers and other relevant industry parties.

Who You Are
  • The Connector: You have strong commercial property insurance contacts and know how to navigate the hierarchy of a large brokerage.

  • The Industry Guru: You understand commercial P&C fundamentals but are bored by legacy systems. You’re excited to show brokers a better way to work.

  • The Strategist: You proactively identify the best opportunities & build a plan to capture them.

  • Experience: 5+ years in insurance distribution, agency management, or wholesale brokerage. Active surplus lines producer license is required (or relevant surplus lines experience.)

How will success be measured?

To ensure this person is successful, you should measure them on:

  1. New Appointments: Number of high-quality agencies signed per month.

  2. Submission Flow: Volume of "Qualified Submissions" coming through the broker channel.

  3. Activation Rate: The percentage of appointed agencies that bind at least one policy within their first 60 days.

  4. Retention: Year-over-year renewal rate of the broker-produced book of business.

Why SafeLease?

The tech: Our prospects convert fast because we’re solving real problems and delivering serious value to commercial real estate owners.

The team: We’re a team of seasoned pros and sharp operators who know how to move fast and build smart. High standards, low ego.

The stability: We’re well-funded, growing fast, and we make sure our team shares in that success with competitive pay and equity.

The employee experience: We also offer unlimited PTO, full health benefits, flexible work setups, and the kind of culture where people want to show up to do their best work.

If you don't have all the qualifications listed, don't worry! We understand everyone's career path is unique and still encourage you to apply if you feel this role is aligned with your career trajectory.

Employment at SafeLease is contingent upon a satisfactory verification of a general and criminal background check.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
