Job Description

The Content & Authority Lead sets editorial direction and owns content quality end to end, from drafting and editing to sourcing the right voices and expertise to make the work credible.

The "authority" part matters here. AI answer engines cite content that reads as expert, accurate, and trustworthy, so the editorial bar directly determines whether the brand shows up in AI-generated answers at all. You'll be building a point of view across the content, briefing and managing external writers and contributors, and putting the QA process in place that keeps everything consistent and on-brand before it ships.

This is a mix of hands-on editorial work and the process and people management it takes to keep a content pipeline moving reliably.

You will be responsible for:

  • Setting editorial direction and content standards that reflect the brand's voice and priorities.
  • Drafting original content and editing or overseeing drafts from other writers and contributors.
  • Identifying and building relationships with subject matter experts to strengthen the credibility and depth of the content.
  • Writing clear, detailed briefs for freelance writers, agencies, and expert contributors.
  • Owning content QA, reviewing for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to editorial and brand standards before publication.
  • Building and maintaining a repeatable editorial workflow from ideation through drafting, review, and publication.
  • Structuring content so it's usable by AI answer engines, working with the technical lead on formatting, and with the measurement lead on what's actually getting cited.
  • Partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to keep content priorities aligned with broader strategy.
  • Refining the editorial approach based on performance and feedback.

Qualifications

Must-have

  • 5+ years of editorial, content strategy, or content marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing content production at scale, across multiple contributors or writers.
  • Experience identifying, recruiting, and working with subject matter experts or outside contributors.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to write clear briefs and give useful editorial feedback remotely.
  • Sharp attention to detail and consistency across large volumes of content.
  • Comfortable balancing editorial judgment with a defined process and firm deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple content workstreams at once.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience writing or editing for search visibility, including E-E-A-T principles and content structured for retrieval.
  • Familiarity with AEO, GEO, or AI search, or clear curiosity about it.
  • Experience in a regulated or compliance-heavy industry.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
