The Advisor Transitions Consultant will lead a centralized function responsible for equipping our teams to attract, onboard, and retain experienced financial advisor practices. This individual will oversee the end-to-end advisor transition experience, ensuring seamless integration and long-term success for both the advisor and our organization. They are responsible for developing a strategic recruitment plan to attract, assess, hire and onboard top-tier experienced financial advisors. This role requires a deep understanding of the financial services industry, a proven track record in talent acquisition, and a passion for building high-performing teams. In addition, this role should be comfortable working in a matrix environment, influencing without authority and creating cross functional partnerships. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership, business development, communication, and interpersonal skills. This role must serve as the business leader to build future capabilities to attract and retain aligned practices to join the Thrivent Ecosystem.

         

          

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Develop a comprehensive advisor recruiting and acquisition strategy aligned with the company's overall business objectives. 

  • Design and implement a scalable, repeatable transition framework that supports the successful onboarding and integration of experienced advisor teams and practices. 

  • Requires deep knowledge of the financial services industry and a strong understanding of multiple affiliation models, including 1099, W-2, and RIA structures. 

  • Manage a high-performing team with plans for future growth, collaborating cross-functionally with stakeholders across recruiting, compliance, operations, and advisor support. 

  • Advise on the recruiting and onboarding process across key stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach and positive candidate experience.   

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex transition issues and ensure a smooth, high-touch advisor journey from pre-onboarding through post-integration. 

  • Work across distribution leaders to understand business needs and gaps to build resources, material and content useful in understanding competitive insights to inform the process and strategy.  

  • Support the continued advancement of the wealth management strategy by establishing resources, data and reporting to inform direction.  

  • Identify and prioritize target advisor segments and develop tailored recruitment plans for each. 

  • Use advisor feedback, data, and industry trends to continuously refine transition processes, increase efficiency, and enhance advisor satisfaction and retention. 

  • Ensure transition processes are compliant with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk management protocols. 

  • Create and maintain a strong employer brand to position the company as an employer of choice within the financial services industry. 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry associations, professional networks, and other key external partners to generate a robust pipeline of qualified candidates. 

  • Collaborate with field leaders to define role requirements, develop candidate profiles, and ensure a smooth onboarding process. 

  • Attend industry conference to gain insights on best practices and build relationships with external partners.  

  • Collaborate with corporate stakeholders to structure acquisition deals, including valuation, compensation, and transition planning. 

  • Analyze recruiting and acquisition metrics and performance data to measure performance and identify areas for improvement. 

  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging talent acquisition technologies. 

  • Work towards building a team of resources that can onboard and support experienced talent to teams.  

  • Recruits, develops, and sustains a high-performing team while promoting a culture of shared accountability, operational excellence, and partnership across the organization.

This role will work with identified Experienced Advisors candidates (external) that will be hired into the organization and coordinate across the organization to ensure they are the right person, the valuation of their business meets our needs, coordinate the successful launch into our organization and successful “book transfer.  They will work across teams in Ecosystem Leadership, Compliance, Supervision, Legal agreement review, G&G for brand guidelines, DAX, BDIA teams, Business Development & Sales Support, and Public Relations to ensure there’s successful transition of the experienced Advisor and their book to Thrivent.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:   

 Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, human resources, or a related field. 

  • 7+ years of experience in the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of advisor business models and firm structures (1099, W-2, RIA). 

  • Proven experience leading advisor transitions or onboarding functions within a broker-dealer, RIA, or hybrid firm. 

  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing recruiting teams. 

  • Strong understanding of the financial services industry, including regulatory requirements and compliance standards. 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. 

  • Ability to build strong relationships with candidates, advisors, and internal stakeholders. 

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using applicant tracking systems and other recruiting tools. 

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve recruiting goals and metrics.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $130,210.00 - $176,167.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
