What we need  

We are looking for Industrial Controls Engineers at all levels to join our Hardware R&D team within our Industrial Controls organization. Your job will be to contribute to the development and implementation of industrial control systems, ensuring they meet customer requirements and site-specific needs. Additionally, you will provide guidance and support to the automation hardware engineering staff within the Hardware R&D group as necessary.  

 

This opportunity will provide exposure to various engineering teams within our organization, including the electrical, mechanical, robot, and vision teams. You will engage with cutting-edge technologies in warehouse automation and material handling industries, including AI and Machine Learning.  

 

What we do  

The Hardware R&D, Industrial Controls team specializes in developing and optimizing industrial control systems to enhance the efficiency and functionality of our automation solutions.  

 

What you’ll do  

  • Define and plan technical tasks related to research and development projects, prioritizing innovative development efforts to advance industrial control technology.  

  • Spearhead the development of new control system functionalities and modifications, leveraging advanced techniques and tools to drive innovation.  

  • Oversee the execution of test strategies tailored to R&D projects to validate and refine developments.  

  • Collaborate with developing standard code libraries for use within Symbotic control systems to control new and existing automation systems.  

  • Document standard code library and final control system programming.  

  • Actively participate in design reviews for technical solutions within existing architectures, providing specialized expertise to enhance system performance and accelerate development progress.  

  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify technical challenges and develop innovative solutions . 

  • Document research findings, development processes, and simulation results to capture valuable insights and facilitate knowledge sharing within the R&D team.   

  • Ability to travel up to 30% to support customer sites . 

 

What you’ll need  

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineer, Computer science or in a related discipline.   

  • Minimum of 5 years of Design and Implementation of Industrial Control Systems using PLC, HMIs, Industrial Robotics, and VFD/Servo Drives.  

  • Minimum of 5 years in ground up Programming of PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment for Industrial Control Systems. (Rockwell Automation products preferred)  

  • Knowledge of Power Systems and Servo Controls to design motion control systems.  

  • Experience with AC/DC Drive Control Architecture.  

  • Expert level experience in Rockwell PLC’s (ControlLogix, GuardLogix)  

  • Expert level of Industrial Automation network technology.  

  • Experience developing and programming HMI applications. (Ignition8, FactoryTalk ME/SE)  

  • Able to understand and read electrical and mechanical schematics.   

  • Strong background in troubleshooting complex automated system.   

  • Experience with JIRA and agile methodology.   

  • Knowledge in Inductive Automation products is a plus.  

Our Environment

  • Up to 25% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations. 

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
