Design, develop, maintain, and optimize ADABAS database structures and data solutions. Support mainframe data processing (Natural, COBOL, JCL), perform migrations to modern platforms, tune performance, ensure data integrity/security, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with developers, architects, and analysts on modernization, API/cloud integration, and data warehousing initiatives.
Position Title: ADABAS Data Engineer
Overview:
The ADABAS Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing data solutions built on the ADABAS (Adaptable Database System) platform. This role supports data integration, migration, modernization initiatives, and enterprise data management while ensuring data quality, performance, security, and availability across business applications.
- Design, develop, and maintain ADABAS database structures and related data solutions.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into database designs and data models.
- Develop and optimize ADABAS queries, utilities, and data extraction processes.
- Work with Natural, COBOL, JCL, and other mainframe technologies to support data processing requirements.
- Perform data migration, conversion, and integration activities between ADABAS and modern data platforms.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure data integrity, backup, recovery, and security procedures are maintained.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, incidents, and performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with application developers, architects, business analysts, and infrastructure teams.
- Support modernization efforts involving API integration, cloud migration, and data warehousing initiatives.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Participate in system upgrades, testing, deployment, and production support activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong experience with ADABAS Database Administration and Development.
- Hands-on experience with Software AG Natural programming.
- Knowledge of Mainframe technologies including z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and COBOL.
- Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration techniques.
- Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with performance tuning, backup, recovery, and database monitoring.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Experience with ADABAS modernization and migration projects.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise integration tools.
- Familiarity with data warehouse and analytics platforms.
- Exposure to Agile and DevOps methodologies.
