About SafeLease

SafeLease is redefining how insurance is designed, priced, and distributed inside leased real estate. The company has built a vertically integrated insurance and software platform that embeds tenant protection and commercial coverage directly into self-storage operations, transforming insurance from a low-value add-on into a scalable, recurring revenue engine for operators.

By combining purpose-built software with in-house underwriting and insurance program design, SafeLease treats insurance as a configurable product, enabling flexibility across coverage, pricing, and contracts while driving measurable NOI improvement and operational efficiency for customers. Today, SafeLease’s platform is used by more than 4,000 properties nationwide and has become a core part of how operators manage risk and monetize their tenant base.

Founded four years ago, SafeLease is profitable, capital-efficient, and backed by an enduring family office capital base. Having established a leadership position in self-storage, the company is now investing further in product innovation and insurance expansion to extend its platform into adjacent commercial property verticals (manufactured housing, light industrial, hangars, marinas, etc.), with a clear ambition to build the leading insurance infrastructure for leased real estate.

Position Overview

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of pricing models, assumptions, and methodologies

  • Evaluate underwriting guidelines and risk selection strategies using actuarial and statistical techniques

  • Monitor product performance and identify emerging risks or opportunities

  • Prepare exhibits, reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders and leadership

  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, finance, and product teams to support strategic initiatives

  • Support regulatory filings and documentation related to rates and product changes, as applicable

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field

  • 1–3 years of actuarial or analytical experience in insurance (entry-level candidates with strong internships considered)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • One to three actuarial exams passed, including at least one CAS exam (preferably Exam P or Exam FM)

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including building and maintaining analytical models, tools, and pricing templates

  • Ability to communicate actuarial analyses clearly in written and verbal formats

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior actuarial pricing experience, including internships or full-time actuarial roles

    • Experience supporting rate filings, including preparation of exhibits, documentation, or regulatory responses

  • Experience working with P&C or specialty insurance products

  • Exposure to pricing, product development, or underwriting analytics

  • Familiarity with insurance data structures and loss development concepts

  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with SQL, R, Python, or similar tools is a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
