Growth Product Manager Intern | Acorns

Acorns is seeking an innovative and analytical Growth Product Manager Intern to help shape the future of financial wellness through the power of artificial intelligence and generative technology. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of product growth, data science, and emerging LLM capabilities. You will help discover, scope, and experiment with new ways to engage, educate, and guide our customers on their financial journeys using cutting-edge AI integrations.

This internship is a 12-week, full-time program, requiring 40 hours per week.

Acorns is a remote-first organization, offering the flexibility to work remotely while providing optional access to office space in Irvine, CA.

What you will do at Acorns:

  • Collaborate with engineering and design to explore, test, and optimize prompt engineering frameworks for open-ended generative AI features, such as an interactive "Ask Acorns" experience.

  • Research customer interaction models and handoff experiences from LLMs to downstream features, providing clear recommendations and hypotheses for product experimentation that drive customer retention.

  • Evaluate the evolving AI ecosystem—including the ChatGPT store, plugin marketplaces, and third-party LLM integrations—to identify strategic growth, distribution, and product expansion opportunities.

  • Partner with the Marketing team to align on Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies, establishing an ingestion framework for AI search insights to fuel a robust roadmap of growth experiments.

  • Analyze quantitative metrics and qualitative customer feedback from product experiments to iterate rapidly and scale high-impact growth initiatives.

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • Required: Junior standing (Graduating 2027) or above or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, Cognitive Science, or a related field.

  • Must be able to work for the duration of the internship (full-time availability for 12-weeks starting in June or July 2026)

  • A deep curiosity and foundational understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, and emerging search landscapes (GEO/SEO).

  • Strong analytical skills with a data-informed approach to mapping customer journeys, diagnosing friction points, and structuring A/B tests.

  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical AI concepts with marketing strategies and customer experience goals.

  • Hunger to deliver game-changing products

  • Exceptional drive and precision in delivery

  • A belief that your work is tied to your life's mission

  • Optimistic about the potential of societal change

You are not expected to have experience with all listed requirements. If you feel passionate about Acorns' mission, vision, and values, please apply.

What we offer:

  • Competitive hourly wage

  • Flexible work hours and location

  • Monthly events, panel discussions, and speakers

  • Talented and motivated team members who care deeply about one another, our mission, and our customers.

  • The rare opportunity to create a new world. We inspire one another every day to do meaningful work that solves big societal challenges.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
