Graphite Financial is a growing boutique finance, accounting, tax, and strategy firm (www.graphitefinancial.com) built to help startup and high-growth companies scale efficiently and sustainably. Graphite Financial is redefining the “finance department” for early-stage companies and VC-backed startups. We deliver high-caliber accounting and finance leadership and support to entrepreneurs and management teams building scalable, high-growth companies. Our clients are actively managing cash burn, measuring performance, reporting to investors, making capital allocation decisions, and preparing for fundraising. All of that takes expertise and time that founders don’t have and can’t afford to hire for. Graphite bridges the gap with flexible, fixed-fee support packages that provide fractional leadership and operational support from CFOs, Controllers, FP&A Managers, and Tax leaders.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a process-driven Senior Accounting Associate to serve as a vital partner to our portfolio of high-growth startup clients. This isn’t a back-office corporate role; you will work directly with founders and finance leaders, handling full-cycle accounting while driving process improvements. This is the perfect role for a Senior Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced, client-facing environment and is looking for a long-term career with a clear path for growth.

Who You Are

You are a "full-cycle generalist" who loves the technical side of accounting but enjoys the variety that comes with managing multiple clients. You likely have a background in public accounting or outsourced consulting and are looking to apply those skills in the startup world.

  • The Professional: You have a minimum of 3–7 years of total accounting experience (excluding entry-level clerical work) and can demonstrate a clear, steady progression in your career.
  • The Expert: You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required). A CPA is a major plus, as is experience with the specific nuances of the startup ecosystem.
  • The Consultant: You have recent experience in a client-facing role (CPA firm or consulting) and are comfortable being the "face" of the accounting function.
  • The Builder: You aren't just recording data; you are designing, implementing, and managing financial systems and ERPs (specifically QuickBooks Online).

What You’ll Do

You will manage the day-to-day accounting operations for a dedicated group of startup clients, ensuring their financial foundations are scalable.

  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage all aspects from recording transactions and payroll to month-end/year-end close and management reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Work closely with internal teams to design and implement better financial controls and ERP workflows.
  • Client Advisory: Assist in preparing for board-level meetings and provide ad-hoc financial analysis to help founders make data-driven decisions.
  • Operational Excellence: Perform bank reconciliations, maintain supporting schedules, and manage AP/AR with high attention to detail.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is non-negotiable (BS/BBA/MS/M.Acc).
  • Experience: 3–7 years of relevant experience. We are looking for candidates with a stable work history (2–3 years tenure per role) and clear upward movement.
  • Technical Savvy: Deep expertise in QuickBooks Online (Certification preferred) and experience implementing ERP systems.
  • Focus: A generalist mindset. This role is not suitable for those with a heavy specialization in Tax, Audit, or internal Finance.
  • Communication: Exceptional professionalism and the ability to work independently in a remote, U.S.-based environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Meaningful Work: Work with the most exciting, "next-gen" companies in the startup world.
  • Remote First: Fully remote culture that values output and "can-do" attitudes over micromanagement.
  • Career Advancement Opportunities: A clear career trajectory that rewards technical excellence and client success.
  • Health & Wellness: Competitive Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage. 100% of the employee's health insurance premium is covered by the company.
  • Financial Security: Company-paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance.
  • Work/Life Balance To Include: Generous Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO), 11 Paid Company Holidays, and comprehensive Paid Parental Leave.
  • Remote Work Setup: Fully remote position with company-provided technology equipment and a $250 technology stipend to support your ideal home office setup.
  • 401k: With a company match

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
