Job Description

This role is the financial backbone of one of our most customer-facing growth engines, our loyalty program, where accuracy, regulatory compliance, and speed aren’t optional, they’re the job. You’ll own the accounting for a program that touches millions of members, from deferred revenue and points liability to breakage estimates and reward note reconciliation, translating complex program terms into clean, defensible numbers under real time pressure. Operations, marketing, and technology teams will turn to you as the trusted finance voice as the program scales and evolves. If you want a seat where your judgment directly protects the company’s financial position while the business grows around you, this is it.

A day in the life...

  • Reconciling loyalty program liabilities: Calculating and maintaining the deferred revenue and point/note liability balances, including estimating breakage, and ensuring compliance with revenue recognition standards.
  • Tracking point/note activity and journal entries: Recording and reviewing monthly accruals for points/notes earned, redeemed, expired, and adjusted, and reconciling data from the loyalty platforms to the general ledger.
  • Reporting and audit support: Preparing financial reporting, variance analyses, and forecasts related to the loyalty program, and providing documentation and support for internal controls, and audits.
  • Advising on accounting treatment of new benefits: Determining how new benefits should be recognized in compliance with GAAP, including whether they represent separate performance obligations or marketing expenses.
  • Partnering cross-functionally and improving processes: Working with loyalty operations, marketing, and technology teams to validate loyalty platform data, streamline the month-end close, and strengthen controls through automation and process improvements.

You own this if you have...

  • BS/BA in Accounting
  • 8+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience navigating complex contractual and accounting issues within high-growth, partner-facing business models
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with an ability to formulate recommendations and influence leader decision-making
  • Proven track record of exercising sound judgment in analysis, leadership and communication

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
