Overview
We are seeking hands-on, detail-oriented Joint Interest Billing (JIB) & Cost of Service (COS) Accounting Professionals to support critical financial functions for a leading energy company’s upstream gas operations. This role is ideal for candidates who are familiar with oil & gas accounting practices, thrive in fast paced environments, and enjoy reconciling detailed cost allocations across assets, partners, and internal reporting systems. The work involves booking and reviewing joint venture costs, validating allocation methodologies, and ensuring compliance with industry-standard accounting and billing processes. This is a remote consulting contract working mostly CST and MST time zones.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post monthly JIB allocations, including overhead, LOE, capital costs, and shared services
- Review AFE vs. actuals, ensuring costs are booked to the correct projects, wells, or cost centers
- nvestigate and reconcile partner discrepancies, inquiries, and disputes
- Prepare and distribute JIB statements and backup to working interest partners
- Support accurate Cost of Service (COS) reporting for internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, or cost-recovery frameworks
- Track cost center hierarchies, field allocations, and shared cost burdens
- Assist in month-end close processes, including journal entries and accruals for operated and non-operated properties
- Coordinate with field operations, engineering, and finance teams to validate spend and ensure accurate attribution
- Support audit and compliance activities, including documentation and variance analysis
- Help improve templates and processes for JIB/COS workflows and reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Minimum of 3–7+ years of experience in oil & gas accounting, with a strong focus on JIB and/or COS functions
- Working knowledge of industry-specific systems such as Enertia, Quorum, Oracle, BOLO, SAP PRA, or similar
- Strong understanding of COPAS guidelines, cost recovery, and standard oil & gas billing processes
- Experience supporting both operated and non-operated accounting environments
- High level of comfort with Excel and data validation tasks
- Ability to navigate high-volume cost structures and reconcile detailed allocations
- Strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate across technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and proactively resolve variances
- Prior experience supporting upstream accounting, joint ventures, or field-level operations
- Some travel up to 20% may be required during the ramp up phase of this role
