Overview
The Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall accounting and reporting process. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, prepares monthly financial reports, and assists with audits and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to maintaining high standards of financial accuracy and control.
Key Responsibilities
- Process journal entries, account reconciliations, and analyses to support the monthly close process.
- Prepare and review monthly financial data, including assets, liabilities, and payroll entries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Reconcile accounts each month to maintain accurate ledgers and reporting integrity.
- Assist with both internal and external audits, including preparation of required documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures and internal controls in compliance with GAAP and other applicable standards.
- Support the preparation of government filings and tax-related documentation.
- Prepare and maintain complex financial reports and records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with various departments to analyze revenues, expenses, payroll allocations, and cost containment efforts across grants and contracts.
- Mentor accounting staff and support the development of best practices across the accounting team.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Experience with accounting software (such as NetSuite or similar systems).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
