About Matia

Matia is at the forefront of the DataOps revolution, building a unified platform that streamlines data management from end-to-end. We empower data teams with seamless ingestion, reverse ETL, comprehensive observability, and intuitive data cataloging, enabling faster, smarter decisions with significantly less tool sprawl. Backed by leading investors and trusted by data teams at companies like Ramp, Outsystems, Drata and Recharge, we're building the future of data confidence.

We're building our commercial sales function from the ground up, and this role will help shape that foundation from day one.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a driven Sr. Commercial Account Executive to help build our sales foundation from the ground up. As our Sr. Commercial AE, you'll own the end-to-end sales process, from prospecting through close, and work directly with our founders to shape how we acquire and delight customers.

This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants more than a seat on a sales team. You'll help shape our go-to-market strategy and positioning, and you'll be one of Matia's first sales hires. We promote from within, so there's a direct path to grow and move up quickly as the team scales.

What You'll Do
  • Build the Pipeline: Identify, target, and engage potential customers in the data and engineering space, both through outbound prospecting and by managing inbound leads.

  • Own the Sales Process: Lead full-cycle sales efforts, including discovery calls, demos, objection handling, negotiations, and closing.

  • Collaborate with Product: Partner with the product team to relay customer feedback, identify feature requests, and help shape Matia's roadmap.

  • Drive GTM Strategy: Work closely with leadership and Marketing to refine our messaging, pricing, and positioning in the market.

  • Evangelize the Platform: Act as a trusted advisor to prospects, educating them on the value of Matia's platform and how it solves their challenges.

  • Be a Builder: Create and iterate on our sales processes as we grow.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a results-driven seller who thrives in ambiguity, is excited to build sales processes from scratch, and can speak fluently to both technical and non-technical audiences about data challenges.

Must-Haves:

  • Experience: 5+ years of sales experience in SaaS, including at least 3 years in an Account Executive role, with a demonstrated ability to exceed targets.

  • Data Domain Knowledge: 1+ years of experience at a data tools company (e.g., ETL, reverse ETL, data observability, BI). Candidates with an engineering or technical background who've pivoted into GTM are welcome.

  • Communication: Able to clearly articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Results Orientation: Motivated by hitting and exceeding targets, with a proven ability to close deals.

  • Collaboration: Enjoys working cross-functionally and knows that teamwork is key to success in a startup.

  • Mindset: An entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for solving challenging problems and thriving in fast-paced, dynamic environments — you're excited by the prospect of moving up quickly and scaling within the organization.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
