Design, implement, and maintain access control systems, collaborating with project teams, troubleshooting issues, and providing training and support to clients.
- Design, configure, and implement access control systems tailored to project requirements, ensuring seamless integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) and other security infrastructure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional project teams—including electrical engineers, security consultants, contractors, and facility managers—to develop customized access control strategies that align with both client needs and industry’s best practices.
- Program and deploy a wide range of access control technologies, including card readers, biometric scanners, electric strikes, and magnetic locks, ensuring functionality, security, and compliance with site-specific protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues related to access control systems, maintaining optimal system performance and minimizing downtime.
- Conduct on-site system testing, validation, and commissioning to verify that all components operate according to design specifications and client expectations.
- Provide ongoing technical support and training to clients and end-users, assisting with system configuration, user management, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Maintain accurate documentation including system schematics, device lists, configuration settings, and test results for both internal use and client records.
- Stay current with evolving access control technologies, system integration trends, cybersecurity considerations, and relevant codes or industry standards to ensure best-in-class solutions.
- 3+ years of experience in the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of access control systems (e.g., Andover Controls Continuum, Schneider Electric Access Expert, Mercury Security, Lenel, Genetec, HID, Avigilon, Honeywell, etc.)
- Strong understanding of security system architecture, access control hardware (personal and card access management, biometric verification, card readers, door strikes, controllers), and associated software platforms.
- Experience integrating access control with Building Management Systems (BMS), CCTV, and alarm systems.
- Proficiency in low-voltage electrical systems and structured cabling related to security technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, floor plans, and wiring schematics.
- Hands-on experience with system commissioning, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for both hardware and software.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as UL 294, NFPA 730/731, and TIA/EIA guidelines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including contractors, IT personnel, engineers, and facility managers.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, especially when providing technical support or training to clients.
- Strong documentation habits for system configurations, change management, and maintenance logs.
- Must be comfortable with field work (site surveys, installations, system testing) and travel to project locations.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, security technology, information systems, or a related field preferred.
Pay Rate: $30-$40/hr. DOE.
