Department Summary

 

Genentech's Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion (ADME) and pharmacokinetic (PK) properties of small molecule drug candidates from very early-stage research to NDA. We effectively collaborate in the development of safe and efficacious life-changing therapeutics for patients with a sense of urgency.  We value our employees and foster scientific as well as professional growth.  The DMPK group works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, informatics, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to discovery and optimize lead compounds, select clinical candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

 

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

 

The Opportunity

  • Learning in vitro ADME science and techniques including drug protein binding assay, CYP450 enzymology and LC-MS.

  • Conducting scientific research around drug-protein interaction using biophysical techniques such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and affinity LC-MS.

  • Interpreting experimental data in the context of drug clearance and potency.

 

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

 

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Biochemistry or biological sciences.

 

Required Skills:

  • Biochemical and biophysical techniques such as SPR, affinity LC, confocal microfluidics.

  • Must have sufficient lab bench experience in a research-oriented lab.

  • Must have basic understanding biochemistry and enzymology.

  • Must be motivated and scientifically curious.

  • Highly experienced in conducting bioassays independently.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of LC-MS principal is preferred but not required.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $46 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
