Ednovate Background

Ednovate launched its first school in 2012. Since then, we’ve grown to eight schools and are on a trajectory to reach 11 schools in just the next few years (you can read more about our schools here). Ednovate is committed to serving areas where students traditionally lack access to a quality college-prep education by building tuition-free, safe, high-performing public schools driven to create positive multi-generational change.

We are made up of world travelers, nacho connoisseurs, KPOP business owners, and Beyonce fans. We love LA and OC, and we're our students' biggest cheerleaders. We are looking to hire innovative changemakers who aim to continue our goal of becoming the high school experts across Southern California. Sound like you? Keep reading.

Position Overview

As the Director of Technology at Ednovate, you will oversee the design, procurement, and maintenance of all instructional and information technologies. You will drive core IT infrastructure—including networks, servers, security, and vendor management—and ensure seamless technology integration to support our schools. This full-time, exempt role reports directly to the Senior Director of Operations.

What You'll Do

  • Drive the organization’s technology strategy. Continually refine and execute a technology strategy aligned with Ednovate’s mission and strategic plan. Oversee network architecture, cloud infrastructure, and telecommunications systems to guarantee high reliability, security, and scalability across all campuses. Manage and maintain all technology systems, including hardware, software, and cloud-based applications. Direct end-to-end low-voltage technical engineering, vendor procurement, and infrastructure deployment for ground-up construction projects and facility modernizations across permanent and temporary sites. Ensure technical readiness and network reliability for testing environments. In partnership with the Academics team, evaluate emerging educational and administrative technologies, including AI integration, to continuously enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.

  • Oversee and implement excellent customer support. Manage the internal ticketing system including escalation of tickets to appropriate parties. Set high standards for excellent customer service and hold external vendors accountable to meeting them. Continuously improve on policies and procedures for day-to-day activities (staff/student how-tos, security, acceptable use agreements, etc.). Manage and coach 2 members of the Tech Support Team, fostering a high-performance, service-oriented team culture. Lead Ednovate’s Technology support model by functionally directing and training school Operations teams to manage localized Tier 1/2 technical support effectively.

  • Direct cybersecurity, data governance, and policy. Develop and execute on enterprise cybersecurity strategy, threat mitigation, disaster recovery planning, and data protection policies. Ensure network-wide compliance with student data privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA, CIPA) and internal student and staff policies.

  • Own technology team operations. Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiations, and service level agreements (SLAs) across Managed Service Providers (MSPs), E-rate consultants, hardware OEMs, and EdTech partners. Co-develop and manage technology annual budget, using monthly budget-to-actual projection reports. Manage all purchasing and oversee asset management for technology equipment and services, aligned with budget. Lead full compliance, documentation, and application cycles for the federal E-rate program to maximize funding returns.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
