POSITION SCOPE:

 A Community Safety Manager will plan and administer a strategic, holistic and Indigenous-led approach to protecting and supporting community safety in a manner that goes beyond traditional policing and crime prevention and addresses root causes of systemic issues. The Community Safety Manager will ensure culturally grounded and self-determined operations while focused on long-term wellness, crime reduction and prevention, and support for vulnerable community members

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A University Degree or College Diploma in Emergency Management, Criminology, Crime Prevention, Social Sciences, Social Work, Public Health, or Public Administration.
  • 2+ years of experience in program / organizational management, emergency management, or community engagement.
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex organizational or governmental dynamics, power structures, and unwritten rules, along with extensive knowledge of First Nation safety and mental health, and strong project management capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of Community Safety and Well-Being Plans that address local priorities and support the long-term safety, health, and well-being of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek and Debendaagziwaad.
  • Identify emerging community safety issues, trends, and risks, and develop Indigenous-led strategies, programs, and initiatives that address community-specific concerns, including substance use, family violence, community disorder, and vulnerable populations.
  • Coordinate community safety planning activities through consultations, needs assessments, data collection, and stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Coordinate internal communications related to community safety programs, initiatives, policies, procedures, and operational activities.
  • Manage external communications including community updates, public information initiatives, stakeholder communications, and community awareness activities.
