Evaluates clients’ environmental risks through site inspections, loss control surveys, and technical reviews. Identifies environmental hazards, regulatory compliance issues, and pollution exposures; prepares reports and mitigation recommendations; advises clients on environmental regulations and risk management; supports underwriting, claims investigations, and pricing decisions; develops training materials; and maintains client relationships. The role requires extensive environmental risk, loss control, or environmental health and safety experience and involves regional or national field travel.

Underwrite new and renewal Ocean Marine Cargo business, including ancillary Hull, Protection and Indemnity, and Marine Liability coverage. Analyze risks, establish terms, conditions, and pricing, issue policies and endorsements, and manage broker relationships. Support growth, retention, and profitability objectives while mentoring less experienced underwriting staff on market conditions, risk analysis, marketing, and producer management.

The Starr Associates Program provides recent graduates with hands-on claims experience, professional development, insurance training, leadership exposure, and cross-departmental learning. Associates study for an insurance-related designation, complete a collaborative group project, attend New York City home office visits, and contribute to their department. Candidates should have strong communication, analytical, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills, intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency, and an undergraduate degree completed before June 2026.
