Investigates capital habeas cases involving death-sentenced individuals. Reviews discovery and case files, develops investigation plans, requests records, locates and interviews witnesses, prepares investigative reports and case documents, maintains client relationships, assists with hearings, and may testify. Requires strong communication, organization, legal research, OSINT investigation, cultural competency, case management, and collaboration skills. Extensive and overnight travel, variable hours, and a valid driver’s license are required.

Provides comprehensive paralegal support to attorneys handling federal capital and noncapital post-conviction litigation. Responsibilities include case preparation, discovery management, legal research support, ESI review, database and witness-file maintenance, expert productions, document preservation, courtroom presentation, and records collection. The role requires collaboration, strong organization and writing skills, physical ability to move case files, travel to courts and agencies, and flexibility for occasional nonstandard hours.

Represents death-sentenced and other habeas petitioners in federal post-conviction proceedings. Responsibilities include case investigation, transcript review, petition and brief drafting, supervising investigators and paralegals, working with experts, conducting evidentiary hearings, presenting oral arguments, and preparing clemency petitions. Attorneys may also represent noncapital habeas petitioners and federal criminal defendants.

Provides bilingual English-Spanish front-desk, telephone, visitor, mail, clerical, and administrative support in a Federal Public Defender’s Los Angeles office. Responsibilities include screening calls and visitors, processing court ECF emails, maintaining confidentiality, supporting case file management, monitoring office access, and assisting clients, attorneys, court personnel, and the public. Requires excellent communication, organization, professionalism, computer literacy, and discretion when handling sensitive legal information.

Provides investigative support for federal public defense attorneys, including retrieving and researching records, documenting requests, maintaining releases, conducting field investigations, serving subpoenas, assisting with expert vetting, and supporting case needs. Requires strong organization, communication, computer literacy, database and online research skills, independent judgment, teamwork, and flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays.
