Ross Resnick | FleaPop
For any lover of design, vintage, or even even more to the point: vintage design, FleaPop’s front page serves as a visual wishlist that immediately whisks you into a clickable rabbit hole of beautiful things for your [dream] home. And dreamy is exactly the way FleaPop (an online platform that allows visitors to “discover and buy the coolest curated collections of home décor and furniture” that just launched in June and recently reached $1 million in inventory) is supposed to be. As Co-Founder Ross Resnick puts it, “We really wanted people to have a way to relax. No tense browsing – just an experience like going to the flea market and looking around on a Sunday morning.”
[ibimage==27793==Original==none==self==ibimage_align-right]This idea, which came from Resnick’s own experience with flea market finds (as the site’s story puts it, he and his wife found themselves with “a number of amazing things” that didn’t fit with their decor, but “deserved a wonderful home”) evolved from conundrum to online solution. That’s just what Resnick, whom you may recognize as Founder of Roaming Hunger, does. “I always think of real-world problems in terms of digital solutions. It wasn’t a stretch to think of a digital layer," and together with UX Designer and Co-Founder Jaireh Tecarro, Resnick brought FleaPop into fruition.
And this small team’s process is just as pragmatic. “You flip through the catalog like it’s a book or a catalog or a magazine...we put ourselves in the shoes of the user – we are the users. [We think about] how we can improve the experience and how we can make it better,” Resnick says. This kind of practical focus on simplicity is what makes the platform effective and is also evident in the site’s priorities. Though he says that the site will be raising money in the future, at present, it is self-funded, and the team’s primary focus is on onboarding – “seeking out the best vendors and partners, and doing events.”
The company will focus its efforts on these goals and also plans to introduce an app in the future. In the meantime, you can find them in the physical world at Downtown Flea (Downtown Los Angeles), and in the digital world – answering questions, curating its collections, creating content, and providing a much needed pop to the way we shop for our homes online.
