When an entrepreneur creates an app, they normally hope their users will use it as much as possible.
That’s not the case for Anthony Bright.
His app, Stop Attack, was created to help victims of bullying and assault automatically share audio and video of their attack to family, friends, or local authorities. By sharing a GPS location and live streaming the video and audio of a potential attack, Stop Attack claims to be a quicker alternative to normal smartphone recording tools.
“We want people to be able to say ‘Hey, I have this app. Stop.’ Most people will stop if they know they’re being filmed,” said Bright. “Getting that out there so people think twice before bullying or assaulting someone. It’s one of those things where you need it when you need it but, thankfully, most times you don’t.”
Stop Attack allows users to set up a personal Panic List of contacts and control how quickly they are contacted after the content is recorded. The app's Activation Mode also gives users the option of enabling a loud, flashing alarm during the recording.

A former tech consultant, Bright left his job at Deloitte and launched the app in February 2015. After sponsoring events at the Oscars, Grammys, and Kid’s Choice Awards, the app gained more than 5,000 users and brought on singer/actress Christina Milian as a brand ambassador.
While most users have said the app provides them with a newfound peace of mind, Bright was recently contacted by a young mother who had downloaded the app on her son’s phone.
“Her son’s mood would change every morning at breakfast before he went to school. It turns out he was getting slapped in the face every day by other kids. She got him the app and he used it to get evidence that they brought to the principal.”
The app was created to combat bullying and late-night assaults, but Bright believes it can play a large role in the fight against police brutality and the unjust treatment of women in other countries.
“My goal is to get this thing out globally, especially places like India where women are being abused. You’re starting to see that the smartphone is becoming a tool against these types of assaults. It’s really changing the way people think.”
