Santa Monica-based startup studio Science Inc. has just acquired mobile game network PlayHaven, from Upsight. It is also now merged with Chirp Ads, one of Science’s portfolio companies that focuses on mobile marketing. PlayHaven has a network of over 18,000 mobile games that it sells ads against. Amongst those games the company said they have 254 million monthly active users.

“Science was looking for the highest quality mobile advertising firm and we found it in PlayHaven,” said Jason Rapp, Managing Director at Science Inc. in a statement. “PlayHaven’s reputation among advertisers and publishers for its transparency and performance is impeccable, and its growth and profitability are remarkable.”

As part of the merger Chirp Ads now is operating under the PlayHaven name. The Chirp Ads staff will continue to be based in Science’s Santa Monica headquarters and San Francisco-based PlayHaven will operate independently from Chirp, making it Science Inc.’s first company in San Francisco.

Former parent company Upsight, a mobile and social data analytics company said it spun-off PlayHaven to focus more on its SaaS business.

“The PlayHaven Ad Network has a reputation for its high-quality user base and exceptional customer service. Science has a proven track record of building world-class digital marketing firms and is the right team to carry that flag and continue growing the business,” said Andy Yang, CEO of Upsight. “With complete focus on our SaaS business, Upsight will aggressively invest and expand into new verticals and quickly launch new analytics and marketing products that help our customers bridge the gap between insight and action.”

Some of PlayHaven’s clients include Gaia Online, Kabam and Glu Games Inc., which created the extremely popular and lucrative ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ game.

“PlayHaven has been a key partner in monetizing several Glu games, including Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which is currently a top grossing title on the App Store and Google Play,” said Chris Akhavan, President of Publishing at Glu.

The financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
