Marvell Technology, a semiconductor company focused on data infrastructure, has agreed to acquire XConn Technologies, a developer of PCIe and CXL switching silicon, for approximately $540 million. According to a news release, the acquisition is expected to broaden Marvell’s total addressable market by enabling the company to pursue growing opportunities in PCIe and CXL switching.

UALink is an emerging open industry standard for scale-up connectivity, designed to support efficient, high-speed communication so multiple accelerators can operate together as a unified system. Marvell said UALink builds on innovations within the PCIe ecosystem and incorporates proven high-speed I/O technologies to meet the bandwidth, latency and reach requirements of accelerated infrastructure.

By bringing XConn’s technology and talent into the organization, Marvell aims to strengthen its position in UALink switching while enhancing support for an expanding base of customers and partners.
