Creating DYP has taught us a lot about what makes reconnecting so special. When we first launched a platform to make it easier for classmates to keep in touch, we knew it would make an impact, but we didn’t realize how profound of an impact this might be. Thank you to our users for telling us what you like, don’t like and what you wish the app could do. We have learned that the ability to turn a once-static senior yearbook portrait into a real-time story is our best and coolest feature.
We also learned that the best connections happen when self-expression is possible. With that in mind, we created Live Portrait, which is the first and only service that uses video to enhance the value of print. On picture day, in addition to capturing a great portrait, school photographers will create a quick 10- 30-second video interview. Once the photographer’s client receives their picture(s), they simply activate our app and hold their smart phone over the picture to watch the video! It’s the fastest way to rekindle a memory and relive the moment – it turns a simple headshot into a real story.

The photograph instantly becomes a live video moment that can be cherished for years to come.
We have joined forces with Advanced Photographic Solutions, the largest school, sports, senior and volume photofinishing lab in the United States, to ensure that a photographer’s current operating workflow is not affected by the addition of Live Portrait. Advanced Photographic Solutions (APS) produces more than 20 million school photographic prints annually and provides software and services for school photographers that represent more than 5 million students annually.
Live Portraits are taken at the same time that the traditional culmination portrait is taken using the photographer’s existing equipment and current photography software programs. Live Portraits are only viewable by customers who purchase the printed photo, and the video is 100% owned by the school photography company that captured the footage.
Live Portraits will be available to select APS photographers starting March 1 and available to all school photographers (even non-APS clients) for the fall of 2015.

Live Portraits were offered first by Cornerstone Photography in the winter of 2014. Cornerstone captures more than 100,000 student images annually across three school districts and have always been known as the pioneers in the industry.

We have been made aware that there is some confusion between DYP, our yearbook scanner app, and Live Portrait, our service for professional photographers. They are two separate products and Live Portrait is not intended to be a replacement of DYP.
Be sure to check out our next post, which will contain more updates on DYP, including new features and successful reconnection stories.
