Los Angeles’ newest startup,
, has taken the hassle out of creating and downloading apps.In order to give companies and individuals a new way to market themselves on mobile, the company creates your app with just a few clicks while avoiding the App Store all together.
Founded in Australia in 2009, founder and CEO Adam Friedman aimed to solve the strenuous process of app development that has plagued the advertising industry since the early days of smartphones.
“Everyone in the advertising industry wants everything yesterday,” Friedman, an entertainment and advertising industry vet, said “You don’t have time to wait for long development cycles or app store approvals. So we started creating a system where you didn’t have to build these things one by one.”
Creating an app on the site is similar to creating a Facebook post, and can be shared via text, email and social media. To convert content to the apps, the platform uses a patented system called Adapptr, which assures consistency across any device.
The apps also integrate social media content and feature a messaging overlay to create a direct line of communication between the content creator and their fans.
But creating customized apps in an age of constant software updates and new devices is a tricky task.
“Forwards and backwards compatibility is a key challenge and we have to remain ahead of the curve,” said Friedman. “It’s a challenge but it creates its own opportunity. We tend not to release a feature unless we can do it across all devices and your creativity sometimes is better expressed when you have some constraints. Because we’re building our own ecosystem, every time we solve one of these problems, we’re really creating a new IP."
Shareable Apps’ decision to join the LA tech ecosystem stemmed from their close ties to the content creation industry. They’ve worked with large media organizations like BBC and Universal Music Group in the past, but believe their product can be of value to individuals in the entertainment industry looking to promote their own content.
“One of our mandates is to put control of content back in the hands of the content creators. So if someone is producing an album, book, film or television show, they can now distribute it directly to their fans on a mobile app.”
The platform has been used by thousands worldwide and the company recently announced a $3.5 million Series A in accordance with their LA expansion.
