When Epoxy CEO Juan Bruce was searching for analytical tools to help with web series development while President of Digital at Team Downey, he found nothing. So with the encouragement of Mark Suster, Bruce turned his Team Downey gig into Venice-based video management company Epoxy because “it made more sense to build this for everybody not just as an internal tool.”

Why they do what they do: At its core, the quality of entertainment is defined by the quality of the the relationship between the content creator and their audience, Bruces said. Epoxy set out to support this relationship and answer the question, “How do we support the social nature of this medium?”
Funding status: In March, Epoxy closed a $2 million seed round raised from strategic angels and firms such as Upfront and Greycroft.

Why you should look out for Epoxy in 2014: “Next year we are going to have some big announcements and some further opening up: we are pretty private about our beta right now,” Bruce said. Although Bruce said he can’t share much more than that, he did say that these “big announcements” will require more manpower: Epoxy is hiring front-end and back-end engineers and everything in between!
Their office: Just a few blocks from the beach, their Venice office was “a pretty easy sell.” The team actually works out of Dennis Hopper’s old compound in one of the “three little pigs” buildings originally constructed as artist live-work spaces. The “crazy, cool” architecture of the space represents Epoxy’s culture well: “We are big believers in having a great physical environment for people to work in,” Bruce said.
