Hermeus, a California defense aviation company, pulled in $350 million in Series C financing. Khosla Ventures led the raise that totals Hermeus’ venture funding at more than $500 million and brings the company’s valuation to $1 billion.

The company is developing unmanned aircraft that fly at high-Mach speeds. Having recently succeeded in flying its Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 solution, the company is scaling its fleet to encompass three smaller-scale aircraft and begin integrating customer payload capacity. Hermeus is growing its prototyping footprint at its new El Segundo headquarters while it shifts its Atlanta facility to focus on production.

“This new funding lets us build multiple aircraft at the same time and scale our manufacturing capabilities, adding more hardware richness and robustness to our program,” AJ Piplica, Hermeus founder and CEO, said in a statement. “That accelerates our path to ramjet-powered flight. We are grateful for the support of our long-term partners who share our vision of building fast planes fast. Together, we’re bringing scalable, asymmetric capabilities to our national security customers.”
