Apple’s delay in launching the much-buzzed HealthKit platform due to a bug is now available. FitPort a $1.99 app monitors health information, tracks the number of steps taken, calories burned and other data is one of the first HealthKit-compatible apps listed in Apple App Stores.

Other HealthKit integrated apps that requires iOS 8.0.2 access are WebMD, Yummly, MyFitnessPal and Carrot Fit.

WebMD’s Healthy Target Platform can directly connect Apple’s Health app, sync biometric data such as weight, sleep, steps taken during a walk, blood pressure and so on and also receive contextually relevant content that will help users make sense of the data so they can take steps towards their health and wellness goals. iOS 8.0.2 has fixed a series of issues that was found in the earlier versions.

The biggest new feature of iOS 8 is the HealthKit, which marks Apple’s first major step into the health and fitness space. Apple has spent months in calling developers to connect the health app and data to its hub and is now available for users in the Apple App Store.

All these days Health app had been sitting empty on iOS 8 users’ Home Screens without much information about its use and users had no idea of what its capabilities are. Now users can download apps that would work alongside Health app.

It follows the similar concept of Apple’s Passbook app, the iPhone’s virtual pocket for movie tickets, coupons and airline boarding passes. The Health app can pull in data from other third-party apps like Nike to keep all health-related information of users in one single hub.

Apart from the developers, Apple is reportedly working with healthcare providers at Mount Sinai Hospital, Johns Hopkins University, and electronics health records agencies as well. It had announced in June about partnering with a major organization like Mayo clinic for allowing users to log information like blood pressure within the app.

More HealthKit-integrated apps are expected to be launched in the near future.
