Techstars, the elite tech accelerator program with seven locations spanning the US and the UK, today announced that it is powering a new accelerator coming out of The Walt Disney Company. Disney Accelerator will be based in LA and is now accepting applications for the three-month program.
The program will include mentorship from Disney executives and $120,000 in seed investment for 10 lucky, early-stage companies in the consumer media and entertainment product space. Another interesting twist? Disney Accelerator participants will have access to stories, characters and technology from The Walt Disney Company, giving companies plenty of room to get creative.
“Disney has always been defined by innovation, leveraging the technology required to build the future of entertainment,” Kevin Mayer, Disney's executive vice president of corporate strategy and business development, said in a press release. “Disney Accelerator offers a unique collaboration between some of the best creative minds in the entertainment industry and the modern-day visionaries who are starting businesses on the strength of exciting new ideas.”
Techstars, as expected, will be another driving force behind this creativity and innovation, as participating companies will also be able to take advantage of Techstars’ existing network of entrepreneurs and investors.
The program will kick off in LA on June 30 under the supervision of Michael Abrams, Disney’s senior vice president of innovation, and will culminate in a Techstars-style demo day in September. Applications are due April 16.
